new porteus based on ubuntu, debian

I wanted to use Synaptic but want many libraries. There would be an option to be based on ubuntu porteus or the like as the repo or ppa programs have to be added. on my part to peppermint filesystem.squashfs you change the extension to XZM and loaded it after that and I could boot on :D

But the idea that I was more tuned for errors. thanks :)

Brokenman would be the best person to answer to your request. But I imagine that apt-get will not be implemented on porteus. That we already have debian packages possibilities built in PPM manager, though there could be some dependencies resolution problems. And that slackware are the native packages for the porteus os, thus best suited to be used with the system. Building from source might be a good option too, if you want special packages.

Also there is slapt-get as an alternative to apt-get. See:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... nager#p508

But as brokenman has developped PPM, this was considered the best solution for porteus os.

See google with porteus package manager development keywords, for more details on previous discussions on the topic:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... er#p3806on
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... r&start=45

In addition, some analyst find the PPM approach quite innovative, see:
http://forums.solusos.com/thread-3413.html

I hope these few comments help. :)

Thanks. But with synaptic :This opens a world of applications, resolve dependencies and add repositories with the most current applications. And if to this that customizes the desktop, firefox (addons home page and search engines etc) would be achieved Porteus strengthen even more. :)

Good luck. :) Google yields a thread on apt-get install for slackware dating back to 2003:

Just inform us of your progress. 8)

Otherwise, if you would like a small distro similar to porteus but based debian, there is pureos:

Thanks Francois:
I had a problem with PureOS (which I found interesting) yumi both also with EasyBCD: no boot (even ask at PureOS). This before trying porteus.
What would be interesting but I do not have the information and / or knowledge is like porteus is preconfigured for prebooting. So taking the above is nothing more than filesystem. squashfs is XZM but already with respective users and privileges (if ubuntu ubuntu user and guest, peppermint user: peppermint) and add a package XZM and squashfts ... cha chán (or voila)

Post Scriptum: (It would have one distro with dd if I put on a USB PureOS and other ¡!) :)

It would be possible to use the porteus kernel and initrd to run an ubuntu userland converted into xzm's, as I believe you've already surmised. Fanthom did this with PCLinuxOS, see this thread with a companion video: Porteus video section

That said, there is a lot in our linuxrc (the main script that runs prior to changing root into the live filesystem) that is customized and geared for Porteus so your mileage may vary. In the past, we've suggested use of the linux live scripts for projects like this, as it is intended for more generalized use. I'm not able to access the site at the moment for some reason, but the address is: www.linux-live.org/ It may be worth looking into.

I don't foresee us moving to an ubuntu/debian base for the standard edition, but anyone is of course free to give it a shot (it could be posted under the community effort section). I personally don't care for debian based distros but acknowledge their popularity.

If these two conditions
1. intrd.xzm more vmlinuz own porteus
Two. more core.xzm kernel.xzm own porteus

Then peppermint filesystem.squash renamed file ... XZM booted, but as localhost or something which gives problems:
1.clave unknown to localhost
Two. problems in the boot partition or puppy win2 are responsible to fix since I'm running with minimized easybcd from iso
3.it Runs key chromium but not runs synaptic. :wall:

Point is interesting if one stays on 2. I miss it and just put the filesystem of peppermint then tells linuxrc: exec: line433: bin / chroot not found so I conclude that ebo dip into itself vmlinuz initrd.lz and peppermint.

I'll get more to unpack initrd as it is by command. And that moving from win to linux at boot tide.

not trying to shift the topic or thread hi-jack...but i've been using a modded porteus based on Arch Linux from the beginning. pacman works perfectly in it. I got the idea from the puppy linux derived ArchPup which was created by the user simargl. he is also the user who pointed out Porteus to me.

having pacman in porteus's aufs based distro, is pretty incredible. so many choices in the linux world but Porteus + pacman....has filled all my needs.

@stifiling
interesting.
could you share download link to your ISO or (if you dont want to make it public) send a PM to me.

not saying that will be switching from slackware anytime soon, just want to check myself how it works.

thanks
