defaulttexteditor

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

defaulttexteditor

Post#1 by don570 » 14 Jun 2012, 00:28

My experience is with Puppy Linux. One of the
features of Puppy linux is default apps.

These are useful when writing scripts.
For instance it is typical that several text editors
or several music players are installed.

When the script calls for text to be shown
or music to be played then the script calls for 'defaulttexteditor'
or 'defaultmusicplayer' is used so that
the name of the app doesn't have to be known
by the programmer.

So far we have default app sniffer in place for terminal, browser, file manager and root authentication manager. You can see these inside /opt/porteus-scripts/xorg (v1.2).

For text manager i normally use "kwrite file || leafpad file || mousepad file || kate file"
One of these is installed on each release of porteus. Perhaps we could add more in the future. Thanks for the input.
How do i become super user?
Wear your underpants on the outside and put on a cape.

I'm pretty sure, there is already a similar feature on Trinity, KDE4, LXDE, XFCE.
