I voted for xfce, cause it is the most beautiful and clean compared to the implementations of kde and lxde.
KDE is too heavy for a live system on not up-to-date hardware. dont need blingbling.
LXDE is fast, but I dont like the cluttered menu it has.

I'd prefer a well designed openbox environment over lxde and xfce though.

I am growing to love razorqt which runs from inside an openbox-session. It is clean, crazy fast and easy to navigate. Watch out for it in the v2.0 rc1 release of Porteus.

That's cool, I saw it in some more distros but when i say "retired" i thought that it is not supported by gnome development team.

The MATE desktop is still being actively developed.

Brokenman's Gnome version as it looks now would become my favorite laptop DE. It fits perfectly into my laptop screen and seems so different from the ugly Ubuntu (too heavy) that I have the impression of working with a different DE. And with the infinite gtk applications it I have a great difficulty to maintain my normal breathing processes. Very sensual and sexy indeed. :p

As for now, I am leaning to XFCE because i need the windows tiling feature that xfce supports.

If LXDE can support windows tiling, I will move to LXDE.

Windows tiling (Having 2 windows tiled side by side) is very useful to me because i can watch video on 1 window and check email on another window.
