Russia, China vow to kill off VPNs

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/07/1 ... or_browser
A second law that also passed its first reading this month will require mobile phone operators to:

Identify specific users
Block messages if requested to do so by the state
Allow the authorities to send their own messages to all users
" < Google Search > For 2017, the number of smartphone users in China is estimated to reach 601.8 million "

LOL :)

Privacy blunder? Firefox’s Get Add-ons page uses Google Analytics
https://www.ghacks.net/2017/07/13/priva ... analytics/
Mozilla has a special agreement with Google which means that the data is aggregated and anonymised. Another Mozilla employee, who goes by the handle potch, added on Hacker News that Mozilla negotiated a special deal with Google that only a "subset of data" is collected, and that the "data is only used for statistical purposes".
Mozilla is held to a higher standard
https://www.ghacks.net/2017/07/14/mozil ... -standard/
Note: Mozilla reacted quickly to the reported issue, and Firefox users may enable Do Not Track in the browser to disable the Google Analytics script on the Get Add-ons page of the browser.

Firefox users may enable Do Not Track by loading about:preferences#privacy in the browser's address bar, and setting the option to "always". Note End

@Evan, this Fifefox privacy issue reminds me of one thing that always bothered my: is being open source enough to guarantee our knowledge about the program's background behavior? As it seems, the answer is no :(

Not sure of the current status but i read an article a couple of years back about an ex-cofounder of Firefox that stated Browser privacy was a complete joke and was starting his own Browser project but he kept hitting road blocks as Googles funding of Chromium meant they got their own changes included into the base code he wanted to use.

*edit*

Found it and it's still at Beta.

Might be an option as the default browser for porteus but brokenman would need to test the Duckduckgo click through to see if it gets blocked. :unknown:

Funny the USA complaining when other World powers want backdoors in Software. But when the NSA or anyone of 5eyes want the same (and usually the companies get forced into being silent about what the NSA wants) that is either ignored or seen as being OK. To me the USA is as much on a straight path to become international Stasi 2.0 or Gestapo 2.0 as Russia or China are...

This is sadly the case; besides the NSA, FBI, and CIA, there is another agency that is hidden and it also spies, but without the fame of the others. What bothers most people is that they [NSA, CIA, FBI] never catch any criminals, only the regular people are terrified of them. They create some malware and then release it to create havoc in many places of the world. The companies have to let the bad stuff in so they can sell :(
Cheers!

The principal is pure hypocrisy but what upsets people is the way that the gathered information is used in regards to human rights.
