PORTEUS: philosophy, mission, goals, means and society

Post#1 by francois » 24 Aug 2016, 16:05

The title says it all. Essentially, what do you want this distribution and forum to be. I might rewrite the title of this thread as the discussion evolves and also insert the essentials conclusion in this first post. Just correct me if

Here is a few starters of my brew:

Mission:
Provide a community revolutionary kiss alternative to closed source OS (windows, apple, google) and heavier linux distributions.

Philosophy:
effective
friendly, agreable
harmomious
opened
constructive
generous
team spirit, collaboration

Means:
respectful, mutual respect
tolerant
forgiving
conflict resolution

Society:
Impact such as one out of two linux user know about porteus, get schools and peculiarly students to work with it.
Prendre son temps, profiter de celui qui passe.

Also, it aims as power users who want to use consoles and scripting, but also new users who want to make everything with GUI alone.
Cheers!

Porteus means "Powerful Open Research Tool & Extended User Satisfaction"

Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).

:good: I agree with Rava.

I also personally "believe" that successful projects should embrace Fallibilism and avoid
the unrealistic expectations of Elitism (see... Milieu control: Background and Civil liberties )

IMO ... it's a big tent so diverging (converging and even emerging) interests should not be a deal breaker (this is my personal preference).

Regards... (David)

I learn something today I didn't know what Porteus really meant.
I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

While the acronym is quite beautiful, the name Porteus comes from port=portable and also from the god of the sea, Proteus, that could change his form at will.
How do i become super user?

A distro that maintains an open minded view towards unconventional development
(hardware... software... configuration... etc.) would be helpful.

Hihi, yup THC...on a lazy sunday afternoon.. :D

Well, I just don't know what to add here.
Philosophy and mission...is there any?
Goals seems to be clear -- portable and useful even for the "average joe".
The community is nice and polite.
What more can one ask for?

Hihi, the Minister will probably smoke a better quality than I am able to get.

@bogomips:
As you have understood printer is my smart phone interpretation of prime word. This is the Android finger sweeping function which produces what are called in french coquilles. I reread myself but too fast it seems.

But printer minister is a function where Trudeau the small has more chances of promoting porteus. I should have called him before his trip to China.

@donald:
Thanks for your wisdom.

To be a truly live distro. So many 'live' ISOs were merely tasters and/or stepping stones to full installs. :( Finally found Porteus which did not give impresion of being 'live' as an afterthought, but as it turned out, seemed to designed to be run live. The small footprint being an added bonus.

@francois
Interestingly enought, to unravel the cryptic post, did ddg on Canadian printer minister and turned up Canadian Prime Minister.. Some sort of reverse Android at work? :unknown:

Maybe we should go further, that is: bringing the live technology (modules, modules unfolding, ... ) to the hard disk drive. Or something in this way.

I have the impression that we still have something to do along this line: the frugal installation.
