Have you ever thought about using torrent? My wife computer never gets shut off I could put the files on it and could try and share them that way. This is just a thought.

Bit hazy here, but with torrent does not one have to have a tracker? :unknown:

I don't about that but if 10 member would do that it would help on Porteus server. I use torrent all the time and I think it works great. I like I said it is just a thought.

Sounds like a good idea, to help Porteus with our spare bandwidth. Quite a few months now, not used up monthly quota for which already paid up. Think Mint also has torrent. Know for certain that twin of Porteus, MagOS has torrent for download. There are also 24/7 members, cttan for one, that I know of. :)

I know for me I have 2 up most of time and 1 up all the time. All we need is have someone set it up for torrent download.

It's not about torrents, its about having reliable mirrors I can point some of our scripts toward when they download modules/updates.

Sorry I didn't understand what you wanted. I thought it was sharing the ISO files.

Some more info for your edification. After the next official release I plan on creating a Porteus slackware-current edition. That way if/when we decide to change base the people that want to stick with slackware will have something they can update well into the future. Part of that plan means download incremental updates. I will keep a list of mirrors available and the script that downloads (base module) updates will check for the closest and fastest available mirror to download them from.

This looks like simple personal cloud storage. A mirror will automatically run a regular rsync.

When last I heard, Jack had a server, so it should not be too difficult to make a mirror, albeit a slow one, should bandwidth be of restricted nature. 8)

The man I got the Server from wanted it back but he never came back to get it. I still have it. It is complete but only has a 80GB 7200 rpm SATA2 Hard Drive.

My internet is Cable type by Road Runner and I'm not sure of the speed but if it can be tested just tell me how.

Would it be hard to set it up to do what you want to do? If I can get it setup that one way I can help on out the Forum.

Then why not ask the folks at Mint or MagOS how best to manage .torrent. And ask which tracker is the best, and why... :)
