Chrome 42 is released. Big jump: a major version change.

IMHO, both the google-chrome and chromium have reached a state, where I may categorize them as bloatware; I hate the page rendering by webkit and the browsers are not faster than Firefox anymore :-(

Agreed. Somewhere along the way they passed the point. Chrome has become a resource hog. I had to remove it from one of my machines running win 8.1.

Everyone as the right to its opinion. 8)

If you are alluding to the information filtered by the NSA after year 2001, all internet service providers and akin in the U.S. were obliged by the decree of president Bush the commander in chief to collaborate. This was estimated to amount to about 80% of the world wide information that was transiting in the U.S. (I hope my memory is good here, I got this info on a documentary on the NSA crisis). And Obama took the relay.

This is not to say that google was not peculiarly good at finding some ways to treat you personal infos.

Anybody out there has tried and used Midori? I just tried out an openbox version of Slackel based on Salix and Slackware too. but have not used it much :(
http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=08884

It has a working version of Midori and used it sparingly and it worked ok. Chromium is bloat like fellow posters here agree, but if one wants to watch movies online, the bloat is needed

1.0 We had midori at some point on porteus with the xfce version at its begining with ahau. You can grab midori with usm if you want. :)

The only problem is with duck duck go. The research engine does not run under midori, you will have to trade it for another one... ...google. =@

2.0 There is slimjet browser based on google chrome that pretends not collecting user's data, and which is surprisingly fast:
http://www.slimjet.com/en/faq.php

Neko as built slimjet for porteus 3.1 and it comes standard with his porteus lxde+fvwm version. For the slimjet browser compatible with porteus 3.1. Neko's post:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 6&start=30

The slimjet package (64 bit, the 32 bit is in the above thread):
http://www.mediafire.com/download/8n1c5 ... .1.2.0.xzm

To start slimjet you will need the following command line:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# flashpeak-slimjet

Don't worry Tome. I am running x86_64 version. I need to have openjdk working for running some *.jnlp stuff and midori seems to do it. For the moment running firefox 37 from slackware-current. but it(firefox) keeps updating and updating :o
@francois
If I have a chance, I'll take a look at those. We'll have testing this week at work :(
