My usm is like this, and I have no clue why:
# usm -g pitivi
Nothing found for: pitivi
My updates of database and version:
Code: Select all
# ls -l /var/usm/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 Mar 1 12:41 alien
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Mar 1 16:14 local
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 Mar 1 12:42 ponce
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 Mar 1 12:42 salix
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Mar 1 12:42 sbo
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 Mar 1 12:42 slackware
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 Mar 1 12:42 slackwarepatches
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 120 Mar 1 12:42 slacky
# usm -v
You are using USM version: 3.1.7
Is 3.1.7 the most current? Sadly, nothing for "usm -s usm"

Maybe you mean
Code: Select all
root@porteus:/home/guest# usm -u usm
Downloading: vercheck.txt DONE
An update is available for the usm database files.
Please run: usm -u all
You have the current USM version.

Would that usm -u usm update the usm scripts?
Anyhow, do you have an working pitivi, with all deps somewhere online?

@rava:
Bogomips provided us with a 32 bit version:

Hopefully he is able to provide us with the x86-64 version, but the main code is python anyway, so that should not matter if the system is 32 or 64 bit...

Indeed it has:
Code: Select all
pitivi-0.94_beta-x86_64-1_slack.txz 2015-03-01 03:09 199M Slackware package
199 MB, and the pitivi-0.94_beta-x86_64-1_slack.meta nor pitivi-0.94_beta-x86_64-1_slack.txt says anything about dependencies...
But seriously,
199 MB, me thinks that this is
not a slimmed down build, but a
"put all and any dependencies into it" build, or not?
There are quite some complete Linux distros that are
smaller that this
one txz...
(Downloading it now, but it is a slow download... approx only 45kB/S)

@rava:
I forgot about that post about pitivi where cttan provides the dependencies for the pitivi provided by usm:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=3752
You can try out Pitivi from usm but require below deps.
gst-plugins-base-0.10.36-x86_64-2.xzm
gst-python-0.10.22-x86_64-2sl.xzm
gstreamer-0.10.36-x86_64-2.xzm
pyxdg-0.25-x86_64-1sl.xzm
goocanvas-0.15-x86_64-1dj.xzm
pygoocanvas-0.14.1-x86_64-2gv.xzm
pysetuptools-3.6-x86_64-1ponce.xzm
gnonlin-0.10.17-x86_64-1gv.xzm
gst-plugins-good-0.10.31-x86_64-5.xzm
aaa_elflibs-14.1-x86_64-3.xzm
aalib-1.4rc5-x86_64-5.xzm
libcaca-0.99.beta18-x86_64-2.xzm
libsoup-2.42.2-x86_64-1.xzm
zope.interface-4.1.0-x86_64-1alien.xzm

Strange enough, the huge binary of Pitivi runs by itself, without any of these deps. But I had no video to cut, I first have to copy and convert my Gopro4 (Black edition) Ultra HD stuff into another container that Pitivi will accept... *le sigh*
So, I cannot really say if that binary really works, unless someone can point me to some downloadable video files that one could use to check out if Pitivi works okay, aka Full HD...
Should have bought the silver, NOT black edition, darn!

@Rava
Should you find you still can't run any video, you might try installing
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.13.2-i686-pkg.txz from Arch, which was in my case needed for codecs. Please see earlier post in this thread.

Thanks for the info...
First I need to get some input video file, like I said, I have some Ultra HDs from GoPro, and then some 1040p Full-HDs or 720 p HD from several digital cameras... and I will have to demux into the container that is the best suited for several programs, since most probably I might try more than just Pitivi...
Seems I have to revoke my login for doom9 forum. xD

For starters mp4. Use YouTube browser of SMPlayer to download test recording, then we can really say if this repo is all it is cracked up to be. Although when looking at speed of 45 KB/sec, looks doubtful.

You mean, downloading some good quality 1020p youtube clip, like one of the free blender movies! Yeah, sounds like a good idea.

Yes, I did.
kino is called "out dated" by many.
kdenlive is KDE, and would be overkill when running XFCe to include the needed libs, sure I could make a double system that either runs a Porteus with XFCe, or with with just KDE when wanting to do video editing, but I don't like software that forces me into using a GUI I not want to run.
. cinerella
Read stuff about that as well, am interested in it but not managed to get it running so far...
