How do I browse windows shares?

With every version of SLAX I've never has a problem browsing windows shares (except where Ethernet drivers missing).

I have always used slax 6.12 because with samba installed I can access local drives from the windows network.
This means I don't have to remove the HDD and mount it via USB or sata to a windows machine - I just boot slax and -presto!
The drawback with this approach is drivers not present for some of the newer machines. I've tried adding drivers without much success.

SLAX remix R8 was much more compatible and is my present favorite (Thanks Fanthom!!) - only one problem - can't get samba to work with it (even after converting it to sq4.) And another strange thing is that R8 won't let me browse the C:\windows folder. Just blank....

So now, here I am trying Porteus (Porteus-KDE4-v2.1-i486.iso) and I can't even access my windows network....\

Any simple answers??

hi donnie_

please try 'Porteus Mount Manager' from System -> Mount drives/filesystems/shares.

if want to automount a share during startup then please use /etc/rc.d/rc.local for this:

Thanks Fanthom,

Unfortunately mount manager insists on using passwords.
I don't use passwords on my local network.

If I want password paranoia I use Fedora.

Any chance of getting R8 to work with samba? :Yahoo!:

If not then I'm back to adding drivers to 6.12 :wall:

i'm sorry i dont support slax-remix anymore (it was a years ago!).

a little tip: you may have a luck with exporting samba-stripped package from original slax-6.1.2 and using it with SR. that should work ootb.
please have a look on /var/log/packages/samba-stripped to find required files.
