[SOLVED]Adobe Flash temporary video storage

Post#1 by userx » 16 Feb 2011, 10:40

In the slax versions while viewing the flash videos (i.e in Firefox) the videos were temporary stored in /tmp and can be easily saved just copying them to another persistent drive.
But in Remix versions (and now in Porteus) I can't find these temporary savings anymore, wherever I searched...
Therefore the question, where are they stored by default in Porteus ?
Thanks in advance for answering...

must be somewhere..., but don't know where and can't check it now.
Anyway, firefox in Porteus has 'FlashGot' addon so you can click on the icon in down right corner (if i remember correctly) and simply save the video where you want :)

Thanks fanthom for the hint related to FlashGot. I will check this...
Because if I just call the Flashgot from menu it starts to download all the clips linked on that page even if I only want the playing one. Maybe I miss something, but if such icon exists it would be usefull.
Hope it works for all clips, not only on that from youtube..

@userx,

I find FlashGot somewhat confusing............I use the DownloadHelper addon for Firefox..........it will also convert .flv's to other formats with the addition of ffmpeg, faac and some others.

DownloadHelper seems to work with more sites as well.

DownloadHelper => is more useful to download videos from video stream sites.
but
FlashGot => is useful to download all files not only videos...even from other download manger on your system.

Ok, thanks to all, I will try DownloadHelper...
But anyway if you discover somehow the folder where the temporay saving is performed, it would be nice if you share it ;-)
Because while viewing a clip in the browser automatically stores it somewhere => don't need to perform the operation two times.. :-)

Empty you cache. Go to the page with the video. Run the script in HOWTO section that looks for files changed on the system in a specified time. That should point you to where the files are stored.

@userx
firefox in version 3.x stores all cache files in ~/.mozilla/firefox/your_profile/Cache
try to find biggest file there (named with random letters/numbers: 0fdf9e234) and play it with mplayer. tested and works :)

That's it !! Thanks a lot fanthom.. I know how to handle it because I did it in the past in slax.
There the stream was stored directly in /tmp, but in remix I got confused :-) I searched a bit around but looking for similat /tmp folders :-(
Now everything is again under control... :-)
