UFO Linux: the Ultimate Featherweight Operating system, at least has the merit to have some substance.

These are the names that I think might be nice

Eos - The Titan Goddess Of The Dawn - Seeing as this is a new Dawn for Slax Remix

Menae - The fifty goddess of the phases of the moon and fifty lunar months of the four year Olympiad - For the fact that there are a multitude of ways that Slax Remix can be presented and configured to match what the user wishes

Eunomia - spirit of good order, and springtime goddess of green pastures - for the order that linux can easily give us, and for the metaphorical green pastures that it can present to users

Priapus - god of garden fertility - for a representation of how this distro can grow into many different forms for use by a multitude of users

Aglaea - goddess of beauty, adornment, splendour and glory - as for the sleek style that is presented to the user, and how appealing it is on the eyes

Themis - the goddess of divine law and order - for the simple order that can be brought by usign this distro

Phoebe - goddess of the "bright" intellect and prophecy - for how Slax Remix can be used by nearly any intellect and is good both for begninners and advanced users alike

I would have made logos for each, but photoshop isn't my strong suit T.T

*Edit*

Hermes would be a nice name as well

I like Eos although the name should probably have some deeper meaning related to the OS.

I'll trim down the list soon and run a poll. Keep the name ideas coming !! Very good.

How about Relax?

I think the most advanced feature of all Slax variations is the flexibility of aufs and way of activate and deactivate packages when needed. so flexibility should be some part of the name. unfortunately FlexOS already exists.

Note that FantomX is the name of a Roland keyboard (musical instrument), maybe a registered name, and users often refer to it as FantHomX.

i like the idea of using the name from Greek mythology. i have found Proteus

Code: Select all

Proteus is a Greek god of the sea who is capable of changing his form at will. This association explains the word “protean,” which is used to describe something extremely flexible or ever-changing.
which is connected with slax's modularity :)
it would be perfect to find a name for a god which is small and fast at the same time :D
Anyone?

Proteus, why not protein. The meaning is not that far.

What about enzyme, code, RNA, virus, molecule, particule, partition?

Proteus as a computer related name recalls this one,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon_Seed

one notsogood guy;

anyway, fanthom, the idea of a god name could be a good one, so I took this book

The illustrated Encyclopedia of Myth ans Legends

and I'm just taking a look at some x names, or fast quick easy related.

I believe the name shouldn't be from a current religion or culture;
the book is here, I can't spend a week on it, so if any wish or idea, I can verify on the fly
and report here.

One add-on: most of X names are Aztec ones of course...

Here is an interesting topic discussed.
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=75
All we have to do is sweet talk the usb modem manufacturer to include /boot on sr0, they got a slice of linux market n we got fund by giving user/buyer our activation key (have to underline voluntarily i suppose).

Food for thought anyway........

Hey how about Fx..... for lettering the font sample ( done it in Word 2007 ) is on my mediafire ( still don't how to do attachment ) close to 7 minutes at my end, BrokenMan and jay probably enjoy acouple of

i think we could start voting today and finish it tomorrow (to catch up as many votes as possible). Last call for providing a good name suggestion!

UnknownX is actually kind of growing on me!

Also, LaMP OSX, the light and modular, portable OS.

How many contenders do we have now? We may need to do a runoff election, if there's not a clear winner in the first round.
Please take a look at our online documentation, here. Suggestions are welcome!
