Patience is a virtue they say, and that's true for sure.
There is no update on https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... 175720314/ - and the last activity from lq user "zerouno" is still 19th of September 22.
More peace to the war torn parts of earth from me. (some western folks seem to forget that Ukraine is not the only area torn by war, it may be the only one currently where eastern orthodox Christians kill each other, but that's hardly a consolidation for other regions.)itrukrakso wrote: ↑01 Jan 2023, 18:38In this way I wish all people in this world a peaceful, healthy and happy 2023.

Some heads up yesterday from the thread I mentioned above
https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... 175720314/
Also see my post on including that as SOURCE= into getmod's setup file /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc as seen here:

What is going on with slakfinder.org
Hi,
@ Rava, thanks for your efforts.
I don't use package managers, so I don't use getmod to keep my system up to date.
They are all too inaccurate and do not meet my expectations.
In 10 years of Porteus I have learned to build my modules myself, with all dependencies, building on the existing modules.
This sometimes takes a bit longer, but that's how I get my optimal Porteus.
For this reason slakfinder.org is the first address for me, searching for packages over all versions of Slackware
and all built packages I find there.
Pkgs.org is similar, but unfortunately does not offer the selection like slakfinder.org.
Also, the constant captcha queries on this site have been bugging me for some time.

It does not only take longer, but also will overwhelm new users to Porteus, and even old users who are not that good at manually resolving all the dependencies issues.
I presume you work with the
Code: Select all
ldd /path/to/binary|grep "not found"
I know, it was a neat site. Hopefully it comes back some time. For this reason slakfinder.org is the first address for me, searching for packages over all versions of Slackware

Whatwll you do in the meantime?Pkgs.org is similar, but unfortunately does not offer the selection like slakfinder.org.

Use pkgs.org instead of slakfinder.org?

What is going on with slakfinder.org
Hi,
Fortunately, there are some other sites where
I can find the important programs with their dependencies, like:
https://slack.conraid.net/
https://jsanki.ar/ignispkg/
or very important:
http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/
for important liberies.
I have adapted my Porteus over the years to my needs, so that I have a stable system, and few new programs to install.
Unless there is again version jump like on Porteus V5.0, then again a little more work is announced.
Also because the base modules have changed and new dependencies must be solved.
I use pkgs.org mostly for programs that are not available on Slackware. With some effort and perseverance you can get them to run under Porteus.Rava wrote:Whatwll you do in the meantime?

Hi,
@ ncmprhnsbl, thanks for the info.
I have looked at the site, that is a hopeful start.
I mainly use the search function, so I hope and wish that the missing repositories will also be added.

What is going on with slakfinder.org
Read the link provided, it is explained in there:
https://alien.slackbook.org/blog/mirror ... lakfinder/
And at the end he added this:The “/etc/slackpkg/slackpkgplus.conf” configuration file contains these lines:
[…]
… and that causes a problem every time you run “slackpkg update“. There will be a timeout querying slakfinder.org and a subsequent error. After that, slackpkg will function as usual, you just won’t be able to check on updates for slackpkg+. But the error is annoying.
Luckily I am mirroring the repository for a long while now, so this is easy to fix. Replace the MIRRORPLUS URL above with the following line and run a “slackpkg update“, which will solve the timeout issue:
Code: Select all
MIRRORPLUS['slackpkgplus']=https://slackware.nl/slackpkgplus15/
Today I am opening a custom instance of slakfinder on slackware.nl which will hopefully prevent new downtime. Get a look at it here: https://slackware.nl/slakfinder/ .
Cheers!

You are right Rava, the link does indeed include all of these lines:
So the question now is will there be an update to Porteus 5, or to getmod, to change that line to AlienBob's suggestion or are we to create modules with an updated "etc/slackpkg/slackpkgplus.conf" file for ourselves.
And Porteus 5 contains a "etc/slackpkg/slackpkgplus.conf" file and it contains the 2 quoted lines at lines 140 & 141 of the file. Good to know.https://alien.slackbook.org/blog/mirror-for-slackpkg-and-slakfinder/ wrote: The “/etc/slackpkg/slackpkgplus.conf” configuration file contains these lines:

hi Ed_P you have to use the link only to permit the update of the slackpkg without error, the other link is for the web search so you have to use this https://slackware.nl/slakfinder/ slackpkg+ is a wrapper to slackpkg and is linked the the main software, you can edit the slackpkgplus.conf and change the old one.
