[not4n00bs] ...Booting Chromebook

 @ critics...
A Tutorial is a method of transferring knowledge and may be used as a part of a learning process. More interactive and
specific than a book or a lecture, a tutorial seeks to teach by example and supply the information to complete a certain task.

Howdy... Neighbors!!! :friends:

I made this thread to see how much alpha I could get away with WITHOUT breaking stuff. =@
Yep... I've decided to wander off the reservation and go ROGUE by... booting Chromebook w/ Porteus (see... Coreboot )

Ok... I confess. I'm a NOT big fan of Gordian Knot s (nots?) which is why I like cutting them.

So let's get started...

To enable a USB (or disk) boot first follow the **procedure to setup Chromebook developer mode...

1st... log into ChromeOS using your email and in settings select/run "powerwash" (to restore ChromeOS to factory default)...

then... press... Ctrl + "refresh" + "power button"
then... power on and press... Ctrl + D
then... follow advisement to "turn off" signed verification
then... power "down" then "on" and press... Ctrl + D
then... when ChromeOS boots up login using your email
then... when logged into ChromeOS ... Ctrl + Alt + right arrow (aka..."F2")
then... type... "root" press... enter
then... type... "enable_dev_usb_boot" and press... enter
then... press... Ctrl + Alt + left arrow (aka..."F1")
then... press... Ctrl + T
then... type... shell
then... type... "cd; rm -f flash_chromebook_rom.sh; curl -O https://johnlewis.ie/flash_chromebook_rom.sh; sudo -E bash flash_chromebook_rom.sh"
then... press... enter and follow the instructions... (WARNING: select only "RW_LEGACY" or you risk bricking the device)
then... press... Ctrl + Alt + right arrow (aka..."F2")
then... type... chronos
then... type... sudo crossystem dev_boot_usb=1 dev_boot_legacy=1
then... reboot (NOT... "power down" button)
then... @ the developer boot screen... Ctrl+L
then... press... (@ the prompt) Esc
then... select... your device

**mileage may vary... this was tested on a HP Chromebook 14.

Pls Note: special thanx to... our friend John Lewis (@ https://johnlewis.ie ) without which
this info would NOT be possible (he could certainly use more $upport so be generous).

Also Note: Sound/touchpad may be an issue too (see...)
