Porteus Guide for survival (Live Linux) USB flash-CD

Porteus is a linux distribution
customized for USB drives and disks (live mode)
It is available as 64bit and 32bit solution to install
on USB flash, CD,MP3 player, camera and hard drive.

As all the above done in a few steps is the subject of this Guide.

1) How to put Porteus on a USB flash drive.

1.a) Format the USB flash drive in the FAT32 filesystem. (Windows)
(MyComputer, right click on your USB flash drive, Format, File System = FAT32, start)

1.b) Download Porteus
http://porteus.org/index.php#
download: Porteus 64bit or Porteus 32bit

1.c) Porteus is distributed as a ISO image.
It is necessary to unpack it on your USB flash drives.
(extract the files from the ISO can programs Ultra-ISO or WinRar)
When you do this, you will see on your USB flash,
two new folders: boot and porteus
Open the folder boot
and run
bootinst.bat (if you're in Windows).
or
bootinst.sh (if you are in Linux).
Then it will become bootable, ie. able to raise from your USB flash drive.

1.d) Then you need to restart your computer.

Depending on the options your motherboard, it is necessary when starting
your computer keyboard press: F8 or F12 or Esc, etc..
Thus you will appear a menu where you choose your USB flash drive.
After Porteus menu comes before you.

(If in your BIOS is not set options for boot from USB flash drives, you can
do so when you start your computer press the keys: Delete, etc..
Thus will appear in the menu where you can set which devices can be boot-able)

2) How to put Porteus on CD

1.b) Download Porteus
http://porteus.org/index.php#
download: Porteus 64bit or Porteus 32bit

2.b) Porteus is distributed as a ISO image.
It is necessary to burn it to CD
using the option of your program to burn CDs
Burn CD ISO image (Windows - Nero / Burn Image to Disc, for example)

2.c) Then you need to restart your computer.

2.d) Depending on the options your motherboard,
it is necessary when starting your computer keyboard press: F8 or F12 or Esc, etc..
Thus you will appear a menu where you choose your CD drive.
After Porteus menu comes before you.

3) The Porteus Live mode
see all your Windows and all. partitions and you can now manipulate them.

3.a) Good collection of programs ie. modules:

this is great guide for all new users.
Jay - we can add it as /boot/INSTALLATION.txt so there wont be any confusion about getting Porteus to work.

OK. It would be good to have. I've also been thinking about a start_here.bat which windows users can click that would provide a menu:

1. Read Porteus install manual
2. Advice for installing on FAT32
3. Install Porteus to USB device
4. Exit
Format the USB flash drive in the FAT32 filesystem
If you're going to advise this then you should also show how to use slaxsave.dat

Nice how to maybe should include maybe should include barebone boot cd with from_dev=/dev/sdXy for those who can't boot from usb ( my PC is one of those that can boot from usb even using third party software ), can't uploaded my premade boot from cd. i got slow connection here :(
