Numbering/Naming Convention

Is there somewhere a Numbering or and Naming Convention for xzm Modules..

So I mean 003 should Desktop, 07 should Printing, 06 should Office, but what should a GFX-Application like Gimp or Multilib implementation be numbered...?
..making a Porteus Module is difficult. No! It`s Easy! Difficult! No, Eaasy! Difficult! Eaaasyyy! Diffiiiiiicult! Easy! DIFFICULT!!!!! EEEEAAASSSSYYYYY! :O: DIIIFFIIIICUUUULT! :O: ........................ :wall: :wall: :wall:

Hi Ivan, looks like a free for all thereafter, with some users having fairly complicated numbering systems of their own.

..yes that I wanted to know, but I think a Static Numbering System for the Categories would be not the worsest way, like for office ya already have one: 06-Abiword, 06-Libreoffice, 06-Wps-Office ...

  • 09 Internet
  • 10 Programming
  • 11 Administration
  • 12 Accessories
  • 13 Games
be to your taste? 8)

I think 07 is already taken with the Printing module.

I also think the numbering of modules should be left to the admins with user created mods being named like they are in USM with the name of the module is 1st followed by the version numbers followed by the machine type the mod is designed for, like x486, x86-64, etc.

As Ed explains, you probably want the Slackware naming convention: app-version-arch-tag.xzm:

Code: Select all

app:            Application Name
version:        <Numeric String>.<Numeric String>[.<Numeric String>]
arch:           i586/x86_64
tag:            <Update Number>[Id of Module Maker if not Slackware]     (See /var/log/packages)
