hibernate function under porteus

It seems rchase was making a pertinent comment in one of his post about hibernation and linux viewtopic.php?f=48&t=6065
... this is called "denial". Suspend and hibernate may not be "properly supported" by much hardware, but somehow Windows and all or most of the improper hardware accomplish suspending -- and resuming!

I have been working with hibernate under lxqt viewtopic.php?f=132&t=4236&p=30509#p30509 The procedure is included in that link.
At that time, I found the hibernate function useful under porteus lxqt edition. However, using it under kde, I realize that rchase was right.

Do you use the hibernate function? with what desktop? Please share your experience.

Tested under kde desktop:
For now works for me except when google-chrome is opened, which is a problem.

I do, with 3.0's LXQT and 3.2's Cinnamon, both 64bit. It did not work with my 3.1 system until I replaced it's kernel with the one from the 3.0 system.

Suspend/hibernate is important to me because I run Porteus on battery powered netbooks and when I'm done using them I shut the cover and depend on the system sleeping until I open the cover. If suspend didn't work I would need to have the machines plugged in all the time.

So it works perfectly for you.
Good to know
Does this means that you seldom resort to file persistence function?.

I have no idea what the "file persistence function" is and the postings in your link that I read don't mention it. I do use a save.dat file with Porteus 3.0 and 3.1 using changes=EXIT. I have one with 3.2 but don't use it due to the guest logon problem when I do.

Persistence is save.dat or the use of the changes cheatcode.

My Porteus Kde5 hibernates properly, also when chrome is opened. Meanwhile I updated it to Plasma 5.7.0 :)

I have made some test with hibernation i.e. formatting partition as swap, hibernating, surfing the Web. I have resumed from hibernation, added some lines to my porteus.cfg (-rw-rw-rw-) and reformatted swap partition to another fs type. Next boot my porteus.cfg have contained everything new (I think size was the same but main content was part(s) of another text file(s) or clipboard, and last line contained "grd.tubemogul.com/" - now I know "TubeMogul is an enterprise software company for brand advertising" acquired by Adobe), so I couldn't boot. My conclusion: hibernation is or may be risky, especially on newer hardware, it can destroy data integrity between RAM and disks. Interesting think could be also how advertisers and hackers may gather or analyze data.
BTW After I had resumed from hibernation, new connected usb drives were powered-off (after some tests - powered-on but not visible in left panel of File Manager - something wrong with polkit-gnome?) - I use openbox desktop based on Porteus 3.2.2. Resuming from hibernation take similar time to default booting, but hibernating is longer than default shutdown (mechanical disks).

Thanks tome for your experimentation. In conclusion porteus is fast enough to boot and shutdown. Hibernation mode is not advantageous.
