[Solved] Alternative porteus.png?

Post#1 by fullmoonremix » 21 Jun 2016, 18:35

Salutations... :good:

I would prefer to use a svg (/mnt/~/boot/syslinux/porteus.svg) instead of a png (/mnt/~/boot/syslinux/porteus.png) is this possible??? :unknown:

"Best Regards"...

Cybercriminals Use SVG Files to Distribute Ransomware

http://www.securityweek.com/cybercrimin ... ransomware

Not a great file format for the Boot area to have easy access too.

Salutations... :good:

@ncmprhnsbl... thanx as always your input has set the record straight.
I have been keenly following your work for the last decade going back to PuppyLinux.

@Evan... do NOT force me to preface (disclaimer) my threads.
This section of the forum is for assistance ("faq") NOT commentary ("critique").

(see... Ignoratio elenchi)

I strongly encourage you to read the post signature @ the bottom of my posts.
If you have questions concerning my judgement I suggest you PM me.

It wasn't commentary.

I'm giving assistance to you and other porteus users that they don't try follow your irresponsible idea of allowing the boot area to have easy access to a format that is more insecure than a PNG file.

How else are they supposed to be forewarned , Telepathy ?

Now considering the amount of your post that you try and scaremonger users from downloading porteus because you're the only person in the world that has somehow managed to get Badbios,Badusb and Airgap all at the same time and and trying to make out porteus is insecure and Brokenman needs to harden it , i'm surprised you haven't thanked me for pointing out what a crap format SVG is when it comes to security and privacy considering it's use of javascript and meta tagging?

So you can preface (disclaimer) your threads as much as you like but it's not going to stop anyone from informing porteus users with information that they should take into consideration to make an informed decision.

Instead of being rude and huffy you could have just as easily scrolled past my informative post...........

Scaremongering? Seriously? Dude... I have forgotten more than you will ever learn based on your posts.

And do NOT misquote my posts to "Security" about hardening. These ideas are @ least considered by brokenman if not supported.
He has also offered to assist me with hardening MY "derivative" where I might possibly make a case for hardening "by example".

What brokenman does or doesn't do is HIS rightful decision. He is the maintainer which means when he
receives "considerations" (which he encourages) then he decides the next step one way or the other.

What derivative are you working on? My project is 2 yrs old. I spend 16 yrs a day developing it.
I'm 16 yrs CompTIA: A+ (lifetime) and I've been servicing units for 28 yrs.

Scaremongering? I've been on the front lines for decades.
You post Yellow journalism I post InfoSec conferences.

You have been passively trolling (see... Internet troll: Concern troll )
my threads and posts for some time now.
Others have made that mistake and have NOT prevailed.

On your best day you would NOT be able to school me nor is it advisable that you do.

I advise you to PM me instead of accusing me of incompetence before this escalates.
Again... if you doubt my judgement PM me because challenging me will lead to escalation.

Again... be part of the solution NOT the problem. Again... this section (and subsequent thread) is for assistance.
If you feel the need to give security warnings post your own thread in the relevant section instead of jacking my thread.

The post you made (a security warning) belonged in the Security section or you could post to Chat.
You are falsely warning others about a concern that is unrelated to directly answering this threads question.

"Best Regards"...

Take yourself over to a search engine and research " Linux exploit.svg " "Linux metasploit svg" so you can see for yourself the warnings going out to now be careful with SVG files.

Exploiting SVG is considered the next big thing now that Flashplayers days are numbered.

Then contact the search engine provider and accuse them of trolling you.......... :)

Salutations... :good:

Dude... those arguments are moot because you are NOT
posting them in the appropriate Section on your own thread.

Posting arguments to an FAQ is the SAME
as posting arguments to a Tutorial.

This is NOT the place for debate... critique or even dialogue. It's for Q&A .
You need to learn in life sometimes it's NOT what you want it's HOW you want it.

This is NOT a contest. No prizes or trophies will be handed out. Because everyone will LOSE.

The problem started when you decided to answer a question that was
NOT asked by making an argument for an issue that does NOT answer it.

Read the thread and my post signature again and also follow the excellent
example of ncmprhnsbl who has been HELPING me for the last decade.

The point you are missing is when you FAIL to PM you are "threadjacking".
If you wish to have a lively dialogue off forum in PM now's the time to do so.

"Best Regards"...

If you are not interested in the escalating problems of SVG exploiting and my forewarning to users on the subject of being careful with adding or experimenting with 3rd party SVG files to the boot section then as stated scroll past my post.

I can't forewarn porteus users that may be unaware of this escalating issue by sending you a PM or by posting it elsewhere on the forum as the user reading this thread wouldn't know to go there , that would be ridiculous to suggest as such.

Salutations... :good:

Again valid issue (perhaps?) invalid audience. This thread is posted to a Q&A .
Unless you are answering the question asked you ARE "threadjacking".

You are NOT forewarning anyone... you are accusing me of incompetence for addressing MY concerns.
The forum has moderators if you have concerns then PM them (good luck with that).

Dude... get over yourself. You are not a hero... but you are trolling a Q&A . The unsung heroes of the community are the mods and maintainers.
If you had a valid concern you would have posted in the approprate Section and linked back to this thread or referred the issue to the mods.

Again... calling me out (in this case FAILING to) on a question that I posted to resolve MY concern is a Pretext to troll .

"Best Regards"...

Then to permanently solve your imagination of being trolled you have 3 options.

1) Put a request in for me to be banned stating that my informing users of being careful is in fact a personal persecution of you.

2) Put a request for forum ignore to be added so you can add my name to it.

3) Scroll past everyone of my posts so you don't delude yourself into thinking that you are being personally targeted with public information aimed at all users on a public forum.

Problem is then permanently solved that you don't need to upset yourself with your problem any longer.

Salutations???

AGAIN...you are a Internet troll: Concern troll NOT a hero. You are jacking a thread under a Pretext .
You ARE delusional if you think you will use me to stroke your ego.

All that will happen is this will ESCALATE to a flame war.
You are out your league dude and you will be pwned like the rest.

You are advised to PM (your best option) to resolve this
or let's stop screwing around and have this flame war.

You should know by now... this is no longer about anything other
than me and you personally. So grow up be a grown up and PM.

"Best Disregards"... :x
