Porteus 5.0 updates: kernel

Post#1 by rych » 15 Aug 2023, 16:09

ncmprhnsbl, is there going to be a kernel update, which must be still at 5.18? I know it's a big job: nVidia driver and other things would need to be rebuilt. Still there must be good developments in new kernels. Or not?

@Blaze, try this one: https://www.mediafire.com/file/cxxmg3lv ... 6.3.13.zip
The patches are all in this thread: https://github.com/sfjro/aufs-standalone/issues/29

Porteus 5.0 updates: kernel

Post#3 by ncmprhnsbl » 16 Aug 2023, 08:32

as you may already be aware,
see here for updated kernels: Porteus Kernel Builder
there are various 'example' builds throughout the (very long) thread, towards the end for the latest.
i encourage anyone to use the tool to make your own,
and if you're targeting one computer, to use the option: "compile with the config of only your PC driver :ONLY"
this makes your 000-kernel.xzm significantly smaller (make sure to plug in any hardware peripherals you want to use first)

Yes, that's all great and I've been using a newer kernel that solved a hardware compatibility issue. However, I also need the nVidia driver and that's only available for the stock Porteus 5.0. I could try to copy the newer kernel+nvidia driver from PorteuX back to Porteus... Anyway, my question stands because of the nvidia driver: in one of the Updates can we hope you upgrade the kernel (+nvidia driver -- sorry I keep repeating that, but they really must come together :)?

Porteus 5.0 updates: kernel

Post#5 by rych » 10 Mar 2024, 09:26

ncmprhnsbl, thanks for previously providing a "Prebuilt nvidia 535 and 470 driver modules (with multilib support) ... available in x86_64/Porteus-v5.01/kernel folder", the 08-nvidia-535.113.01-k.6.5.5-porteus-v5.01-x86_64.xzm) However with the new kernel update (thanks!) you didn't seem to rebuild the nvidia driver. Could you provide it again, please? Thank you for your work anyways.

yeah, sorry, time constraints didn't allow for it unfortunately, and i'll be away from my nvidia box for a couple of weeks..
i do recommend using the linked^ how to and script to build your own, it's quite easy once you get the hang of it.

Here it goes. Please noticed that I haven't tested it because I don't have a Nvidia card available at the moment:
