package building and management except getmod

In fact, I have worked a lot on trying all these solutions. My goal was to improve the pasture for porteus. Most of these package managers or builders will work, and some work very well.

We just have to get acquainted with each of them. And getting acquainted means to use them and have users to use them. Since getmod provides much packages, you get lazy.

I fully agree, and therefore my idea: to list all available options, with a short description, to aid newbies and experienced users alike into getting to know the alternatives that exist when getmod itself fails.

About my idea: it will most probably take some days… busy, too busy. :coffee: *soupirer après le calme* :coffee: . I hope you are okay with me sending you either via PM or email ( PM preferred since the I could use [ code ] and/or [ quote ] ) my first draft on that post that will replace your initial post of this thread. (Well, not 100% replace, I will add my stuff at top and then a divider line and below that I will put your initial post [or possible an abbreviated version of your initial post] - stating I have permission by you doing so, of course.)

And when it's finished I will also pin this thread. Image

Does that sound acceptable to you? :Rose:
Cheers!

Sure it is acceptable.

On my side there is a lot going on too. So be patient.

Beny has a great knowledge about these solutions. He knows them all.

A good forum to read about these package management or building solutions is linuxquestions. The main thread being:

LQ is great, but your given link is this for me:

Code: Select all

Page not found
:( The main page https://www.linuxquestions.org/ loads okay for me, though.

Added in 1 minute 30 seconds:
when logging into LQ, the "Page not found" error stays the same.

Via DDG I found this working link / thread on LQ:

Never heard of "hoorex". Sounds cool. Could one eat it? Does it create funny dreams? SCNR. :punk:

Good to know, but my idea is to have the initial post of the thread listing all possibilities as overview, as table of contents if you may call it - then the posts in the thread could be linked to the chapter that is dedicated to the one program, wrapper, whatnot.
On my case the mayority of programs i know is just for make work videogames, i had publish something some tutorials on spanish like
"DOSBox & Midi" and i explain how install and configure Timidity and/or Fluidsynth for example or things like
"Wine 1.2 and Older WIndows 9X Videogames + nGlide (3DFx Wrapper)"

"Wine 1.8.6 and Older Windows 9X Videogames + DxWnd" (Compatibility Suite for Older Games )
just with this its the unique way i had found to play correctly titles like :
* Star Wars Shadows Of Empires -> Need a very specify configuration
* Blood Omen -> Need a very specify configuration
* Panzer Dragoon
* Street Racing Syndicate
* Microsoft Pandora's Box -> Need a very specify configuration
* Moto Racer (The First)

and another titles on this precise moment i don't remember titles, specially titles "Need a very specify configuration" because just one thing its not configured correctly and the game never start like "Dark Forces II" i just make work one time, and i don't remember what i change and never find again the correct configuration

Well i know a lot of strange things using the operating system GNU, because from 2004 i ever use GNU/Linux distro for play videogames, and lot of time was be very complicated for some titles, like "SimCity 3000" native version for GNU/Linux its very hard try to make that version works on modern distros. is too much comfortable and ease install Wine 1.2 and Install SimCity 3000 for Windows version.

With native version you must solve the limit of GCC version for 32 Bits, limit MESA version, limit specific OpenGL extension, something similar happend with "Medal Of Honor: Allied Assult" on Wine Registry you must set OpenGL version, and OpenGL extension, for make the game work or never start.

i learn too much thing for GNU just trying my videogames works, From 2004 and in nexts years i remember i use a lot of softwares like :

wine
winex (The version merged with directx)
winetk (for configure wine, because winecfg does not exist)
Cedega (a Front-End to manage versions of WineX)
DLG ( A Client for Download Videogames ) [ Steam does not exist native for GNU yet ]

I know some softwares like wrappers can be use trought wine. but another thing i never had understood is why does not exist a wrapper for "Pete OpenGL2" PlayStation Plugin for Emulators, that just exist on 32 Bits, Pete never publish the source code of that plugin for unknow reasons, the another plugins have available de source code. and its works with high performance on older machines can use 32 Bits of "PCSXR" for example i remember some time ago i ask on LinuxQuestion how make a custom package of pcsxr 32 bits version for slackware 64 bit version -> https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... 094-print/

i remember this another post i do about pcsxr -> https://www.linuxquestions.org/question ... ?p=6333045

Well if you publish what specific thing need i analizy if i can help with the things i know.

Seeing as fluent you are in English, I am sure you can contribute to our idea of listing all possibilities of package building and management (except getmod, but we can put a link to the most dominant thread about getmod in there) : This will be the thread, and at some time hopefully soon the initial post will be edited to contain the table of contents idea listing all kinds of programs, wrappers for package building and management with short description, link to a post either in this thread or in another thread, or to a wiki or how-to page on some other web site.

But for now RL calls me and I heed its call.
Cheers!

@rava:
the above link has been corrected and is currently working.

Hoorex does not seem maintained anymore:
https://github.com/cwilling/hoorex

It is a sbo builder like some other unofficial slackware tools.

Cheers!

Funny it's the same link I found when searching some of the subject's keywords.
Regardless it's a good article.
