Testing nemesis update (Migration to Artix)
test on update 08-September-2017
Used with my personal customized kernel and dsdt table (4.6) and nvidia drivers, old original gui.xzm (incompatible new xorg with old nvidia here, no time to fix or recompile), and lxde.
Boot is not auto in gui, need to login to console, console is low resolution. After login and "startx" it boots.
pman-setup works, new repository is there. Pacman works but graphical programs manager does not, probably need to update manually with pacman so then I will prevent xorg to update by manually disabling, i will have to update manually to current base, not just a "pacman -Su" unfortunately.
Of course migration from previous nemesis with a highly used savefile is almost impossible without massive hacks. So a clean system is the only way to keep the system at a manageable condition.

Testing nemesis update (Migration to Artix)
Updated base modules, but kept the kernel as is:
1) Could bootup into xfce environment with previous packages, but as icon-theme was missing, decided to reboot and try to build anew xfce DE. But this was suspected at the update by the author N
2) Each different package installation will propose the installation of the database. It does not persist though pman-setup had been use.
Any cure for the persistence of the database?
3) In text mode tried startx and got into openbox minimal environment with access to xterm and mc as file manager. This is a good idea!
Installed a few packages:
I was unable to install xfce DE with command:
Output:
I imagine there is something wrong with the manjaro repo.
Any fix suggested?
Thanks.

try xfce4
generally if you get a 'not found' message use -Ss to search, which will usually provide the correct pkg(or pkg group) name
not sure what this is about.. pman(or pacman) -Sy first?
check this: Starting a DM with openrc

xfce4:
Got it just before coming back to this thread.
Thanks.
However, icons are missing on the desktop. Only blurred icons with an x in the center. In thunar, no icons are present. Tried to install some icon-theme and install it thru Setting > appearance > as proposed by NeoH4x0r:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=119402
In addition some decorators seems to be missing on the windows, for example the x to close the window.
pacman -Sy:
There is no persistence of the database.

At reboot icons and decorators are there.
Pushing further there is conflict when I try to install base-devel, so unable to take advantage of AUR:

about icons: you need to run update-cache which will create a module with the updated caches.. (although it looks like that has resolved itself for you ??)
it's probably safe to remove pacman-mirrors(manjaro pkg), but my previous attempts at a devel module and AUR functionality have failed, so, good luck with that..
a headsup:
looking at the artix forum https://artixlinux.org/forum/ it looks like support for a manjaro hybrid setup(extra, community) is not going to be supported, so the next update will an artix/arch pkg base..

you could try that... but i dont see it happening.. because artix plans to keep up with arch and manjaro lags behind( and some other issues they have with manjaro packaging decisions)
what i was thinking was to keep manjaro repos, but as a lesser priority than arch(ie list them after arch repos in pacman.conf)
that way some things that manjaro packages(that arch doesn't) (eg. palemoon) would still be available..

Testing nemesis update (Migration to Artix)
Bad news: don't seem to be able to do this: can't have two repos with the same name ie. extra(arch) and extra(manjaro) active at the same time..
with this latest update [How to] manually upgrade 3.5 base modules (Post by ncmprhnsbl #58599)
i've decided to bite the bullet and go with Artix/Arch because Artix intends to keep in step with Arch..
i'll try to put some more effort into getting a working devel.xzm for AUR usage..

In the most recent version of nemesis, it seems that we have a broken pman:
Thanks.
Code: Select all
[porteus guest]# pman -S thunar
/usr/local/bin/pman: line 116: syntax error near unexpected token `/var/lib/pacman/sync/community.db'
/usr/local/bin/pman: line 116: `/var/lib/pacman/sync/community.db \'

I'm facing the same problem when building Xfce from scratch. I have no idea how to fix it. Calling update-cache doesn't fix it. The problem is so weird that even booting in AF mode, sometimes I can see the icons, and sometimes I can't.

Code: Select all
/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist-arch \

@fulalas:
In my case at next reboot all was in order.
Did you tried to install another icon theme and to modify icon theme with panel - settings - appearance icons - "new icon theme"
https://www.xfce-look.org/browse/cat/132/ord/latest/
@nm... :
It works now. I should have looked at the file. Though I would not knew what to look at.
Thanks.
