One thing I learn is more you add and keep it updated to current the slower it run on a USB. My changes directory dated 7-31 was 3.9 GB and on 8-23 was 4.3 GB. My question is if I move to a Hard Drive @ 80GB 7200RPM SATA drive would it run faster then the USB?

Yes, even this old (80 GB) HDD should have faster read / write speed than a
USB 2.0 flash drive.
( USB 3.0 drives - plugged into an 3.0 port - could be faster)

How does one get a 4.3 GB changes directory?
Mine is 395 MB in size - ( since ~ 2 years in use )

I store large files outside of the porteus file system, (home folder),
in a folder on the (physical) drive to prevent the rapid growth
of the changes folder.
(e.g. /mnt/sda1/storage)

I agree. Mine used to be 320MB and now is 512MB, 52% used. I also store large files outside the Porteus file system. The large the save.dat file the slower the boot time and if I'm not mistaken the more RAM used. And if you don't use the changes=EXIT option there is constant writing to the file.

I have upgraded it 2 time now to current and it upgrade it save it in the changes directory. I think each time I did a upgrade it was 150 or files plus I install 9 programs plus any dependency they had. It has to store the install some where that why it is so big. I have not download any programs. And your right my Mate change directory is only 18MB in Slackware.

My last upgrade 385MB in compress format and install would be a lot larger.

Whenever I do an upgrade to a new release, or even a different DE, I start with a new save.dat file then rebuild/readd my customizations: clock, bookmarks, bash scripts, network passwords, etc. And I use the module approach rather than install programs.

With this install i didn't use a save.dat file. And I'm not sure how to do the module approach in nemesis but I know how in Slackware that would better.
