Porteus Nemesis v3.5 BUG REPORTS

Post#1 by brokenman » 07 Jan 2016, 00:41

Base: Manjaro
Kernel 4.3.3
Init system: openrc

I've uploaded both architectures to the server.

LXDE:
I included the pamac tray applet which notifies when updates are available. Feel free to upgrade and let me know how it goes. Power options such as lid close and hibernation haven't been tested in LXDE but I don't think they will work completely yet. Mouse is now being handled by libevdev and synaptics by the synaptics cliet. This means you can use synclient to manioulate the mouse. It is not as responsive as libinput but I am finding it more stable and the mouse doesn't jump around like it used to.

KDE
It is buggy. It is new. There aren't many native packages avaiable for it, but I put it there for people to play with. The wallpaper is reset on every boot and I can't stop that. I think it is caused by an X crash during start. It is Plasma5 in 300MB so it has been stripped to the bone. Have fun with it.

When I settle on a base I will start releasing incremental, detailed changelogs.

http://brokenman.porteus.org/porteus <--- look in the ISO folder.
How do i become super user?
Wear your underpants on the outside and put on a cape.

Hi 2 quick comments.....shame on you for making a KDE smaller than LXDE.....go and stand in the naughty corner :D
LXDE seems to boot much faster on my tower....I did not time it or try bootchart or some kind of scientific process....its still faster so good job
First possible bug is attempting to update....Applet claims I am up-to-date which is not true according to your Mesa comment so

Code: Select all

pamac-tray
File '/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist' doesn't exist.
File '/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist' doesn't exist.
File '/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist' doesn't exist.
File '/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist' doesn't exist.
Failed to initialize alpm library (database is incorrect version)

(pamac-tray:2430): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_new_for_path: assertion 'path != NULL' failed
(last line repeats as is not important compared to top lines)
EDIT see next post for solution

Now we are back on track to test applet.

I left click it (I am right handed mouse user)

a dialog box shows up with various updates I click apply and enter my guest pw and download is starting.....Mesa shows up BTW
and after the downloads applet on hover shows system is up-to-date.

Fairly painless procedure. Suggest you consider repeating members are to run

Code: Select all

sudo setup-pman

(during this command members will type in their nearest or home country

(during this command they will be asked to save their settings as a module)
before doing any thing else.....assuming they have network

the Manjaro list appears to be

Chile
China
Ecuador
France
Germany
Greece
Indonesia
Ireland
Italy

Netherlands
Philippines
Portugal
Romania
Russia
Sweden
Taiwan

@Ed_P

Can you open a terminal and run

Code: Select all

lsmod | grep synaptics

if it shows brokenman has a config you execute called synclient

I am on a tower so can't help yet on that

my apols as I did not look.

its not called synaptics...I ran the synclient command on my tower and it told me to load synaptics but if you look at
/lib/modules/4.3.3-porteus/kernel/drivers/input/mouse you can see there are 2 synaptics.

try cheatcode 1 then 2 if no good
1 load=synaptics_i2c
2 load=synaptics_usb

minor bug with PCManFM

I name my kernel as a v in case I need to type in grub legacy command mode.

Copy your current kernel to your home folder and re-name as v and then look at it in pcmanfm.

If I did not have a sense of humour this will be enough to bug me right off the planet. :D

No. Nothing works except reisub.
Perhaps you can leave sshd started when the system starts.

Code: Select all

cliexec=/etc/init.d/sshd~start
Then from another machine ssh into the one that doesn't work so you can poke around the logs.

Code: Select all

sshd guest@XXX.XXX.X.XXX
Blaze try running:

Code: Select all

gvfs-partition-toggle sda4
Where ssda4 is the partition you want to appear in pcmanfm. It's nice to have them all in the side bar, but some poeple (like me) have 19 partitions.

I am away tomorrow for a few days drinking caipirinha on the beach.
