Will not accept my Brother Laser Printer [SOLVED]

Post#1 by ralcocer » 05 Mar 2015, 12:24

It appears as if the CUPS sever is not turned on. It worked perfectly in LXDE.

Hello ralcocer. Nice to see you on the forum.

Did you installed printing.xzm?

Use panel menu > system > print setting > add

Then use the generic pcl laser driver.

If you still have problem provide your printer model. I have brother printers at home. :)

Did all that but it seems the CUPS server is not turn on, with the previous edition I started cups in rc.local but since I am running from CD I cannot make changes to the Iso , BTW I am having problems installing to USB drive, when it runs from the USB it doesn't find the operating system, looking at the config file it reads: KERNEL vmlinuz
APPEND initrd=initrd.xz changes=/porteus

However both are in the syslinux directory, will those instructions work?

Did you tried the porteus installer from the cd. See boot/docs/install.txt:

Code: Select all

As of Porteus Version 1.1, the officially supported method for
installing Porteus to a flash drive or hard drive is to burn
the ISO image to a CD following the instructions written above,
then boot Porteus from the CD and run the program 'Porteus Installer',
which can be found in the KDE, LXDE, Razor or Xfce menu under the 'System'
heading. This program detects the available devices attached
to your system and automates the installation procedure.

Note that you must have an existing, formatted partition for this
installation program to work
.

panel menu > system > porteus installer (from memory, I am on another linux os right now)

I got it running by extracting the printing module and made the cups scripts in rc.d executable and then re-did the module.
