Stability in Porteus, -I miss LXDE!

Post#1 by ElectriQT » 31 Dec 2014, 11:06

, Hi all,
Even if LXqt still are beta or not, it is more stable than KDE in my computer, but
Xfce also seems to have issues now in 3.1, and Mate and I ,,was not compatible/ not ready for me,

LX Qt seems almost OK, but of course still not as good as LXDE 3.01 are right now.
High cpu load and I run in to OOM-issues also, just as the others have too, but LXDE dont..

I read that they have actually NOT stopped to fix and Maintain LXDE, just that some developers focus now on Qt, But one/some LXDE-devs seems still be going strong on the old stabile one)
( So stability now seems less good, in all the active desktops we have, when compared to the last LXDE 3.01-Porteus.

-Can we maybe try to update also the LXDE-module, just so it can work OK again with the others new 3.1 base-modules and so on?
Is that even doable without very large amount of work?
I actually have tried to run the LXDE-module together with the rest of the all new 3.1-packages in base-folder ( to get latest bash-fixes and new october-Openssl) , that did not go so well,

The old LXQT 3.01 setup with the new Firefox&flash-module seems to work better/ or very good,
But LXDE also looses the changes/Firewall sometimes. (saved as session-changes in the porteus/modules/ - folder )
,
.
In 3.1 it seems to be:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/home/guest# bash --version
GNU bash, version 4.2.53(2)-release (i486-slackware-linux-gnu)
Copyright (C) 2011

root@porteus:/home/# openssl
openssl
OpenSSL> version
OpenSSL 1.0.1j 15 Oct 2014

Can we maybe try to update also the LXDE-module, just so it can work OK again with the others new 3.1 base-modules and so on?
maybe we could start a bounty for LXDE maintenance?
http://wishlist.porteus.org/

i wont be interested in doing this but maybe someone from the community? i see it like:
- LXDE fans donates to the bounty
- someone creates the module (if more people are interested then community votes for best implementation)
- winner gets half of the money now and rest by the end of the year (just to make sure he keeps maintaining his desktop)

just a wild idea how to resolve this problem ...

hehe, cool idea., If I had have the skills I have the time to do it free, but Im not a programmer.

If we Add Bank-ID we might get a bigger userbase from scandinavian XP-users that must change.. and maybe almost all the other Linuxuers that did not manage to fix the script at their platform...

As bankid now only exist for ubuntu and the install script seems very strange(needs Firefox 2.0 or 3.o structure? ..and complicated, so I bet most ubuntus give up..
https://install.bankid.com/

what was the download statistics in mid 2014 ?
( Did we have anyone besides me and 2 more here that use LXDE ? :-) )

Build stats are generated here:

http://porteus.org/build-stats.txt

Maybe a popup ad would be a good way for people to support the build system financially. Over 100,000 builds would bring a small amount in to go towards the server.
How do i become super user?

Thanks for the stats!

Ad?
the payment over internet is a big trouble. I dont even know any person here that have/use Paypal for example,

Speaking of money,
How do we / I restore the Porteus DuckDuckGo-settings again?

I had to update both flash and Firefox before the new base module for Firefox was ready,
But now you will not get any more Porteus clickmoney, ..how to fix that?

FF addressbar type about:config
in the searchbar type duck and check if the strings look like that:

browser.search.order.1 user set string DuckDuckGo
browser.search.selectedEngine user set string DuckDuckGo (SSL)
keyword.URL user set string https://duckduckgo.com/?t=porteus&q=

if not,modify them.
