Pharos Printing support

Here you can post about the issues related to modifications performed manually (not through the kiosk wizard). Example: swapped kernel, added 3rd party modules or files.
Please describe in detail what has been changed and hopefully other kiosk user will be able to help.
Porteus team wont resolve bugs posted in this category as we support only modifications made by the kiosk wizard.

Pharos Printing support

Post#1 by sowley » 28 Jul 2016, 18:23

Hello,

I would like to make my Porteus 4.0.0 kiosk installation compatible with our campus print release stations. We are using the Pharos printing system, which requires the user to enter their ID code into a popup prompt when they submit a job. I have found a github project that extends CUPS to provide this prompt, but it requires the wxpython library. So my newbie questions are:

Has someone already found a way to print to Pharos mobile queues and get an authentication popup? I cannot use a straight up lpd://user@printer/queue since I assume that "user" is the part I need to change with the information from the popup.
Would I be able to get wxpython compiled/installed on the kiosk if it is not already there, or is that going to break it?

Thanks!
