Screen Recorder for Porteus (32 bit)

Post#1 by Jacoby59 » 11 Feb 2015, 03:48

What's a good screen recorder (preferably lightweight) that works on Porteus?

Simplescreenrecorder is a great package available on slackware.

Its available on usm package manager:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# usm -g simple
...
...
4) simplescreenrecorder-20131227-x86_64-1alien.tgz
From what I know there is a 32 bit version too.

Simplescreenrecorder isn't working for some reason. It downloads and activates alright, but once I open Multimedia>Simplescreenrecorder, nothing happens. There was a message stating "WARNING: unresolved dependencies remain." during the download process, however. Maybe that's what's causing it to not run? I copied all the stuff from terminal during the download process, and here they are-

Code: Select all

Re: Screen Recorder for Porteus (32 bit)

Post#4 by francois » 12 Feb 2015, 02:26

Sorry, I did not remember that under other environment it could be so complex.

Maybe you should install the kde environment. I think that simplescreenrecorder(ssr) comes stock with it. You can choose from one bootup to the other to boot alternatively on kde or on razorqt. See my post on how to do it:
viewtopic.php?t=3919&p=29353

The other solution is to pursue and add the missing dependencies by looking at the list that you have. A good source is pkgs.org. Pleae use the slackware 14.1 version.

I hope it helps. :)

I use ffmpeg ans it does a great job. Put the following into a text file called 'record-screen.sh'

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

export OUTPUTHI=/tmp/screen-record-hi.avi
export OUTPUTLOW=/tmp/screen-record-low.mkv

case $1 in
low )
low=true
shift
;;
hi )
hi=true
shift
;;
* )
echo "Usage: $0 hi sound"
echo "       $0 low nosound"
exit
;;
esac

if [ $hi ]; then
	[ "$1" = "sound" ] && ffmpeg -f alsa -i hw:1 -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 $OUTPUTHI
	[ "$1" = "nosound" ] && ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 $OUTPUTHI
else
	[ "$1" = "sound" ] && ffmpeg -f alsa -i hw:1 -f x11grab -s 1920x1080 -r 25 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 -preset medium -crf 22 -y $OUTPUTLOW
	[ "$1" = "nosound" ] && ffmpeg -f -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 $OUTPUTLOW
fi
Now run the file with: sh /path/to/record-screen.sh

Be sure to change the output variable at the top of the script to somewhere other than /tmp or it will fill up very fast.

@neko:

I understood that jacoby is looking for a video recorder and not just a screen capture program. I have tried scrot under porteus kde. It needs giblib and imlib2 libraries for slackware from pkgs.org.

But maybe jacoby should clarify the point.

aplay -L should give you the card. Replace hw:1 with this. You may have to tweak it a little to work with your system but once you do, the video recording is smooth as silk. Try it wthout sound to see.

@neko

I'm afraid when I said screen recorder, I meant a video recorder and not a screen capture program. I appreciate your help nonetheless!

@francois & brokenman

I'm having the same problem as francois. Choosing hi sound shows the error

"ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1667:(_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card
[alsa @ 0x95542a0] cannot open audio device hw:1 (No such file or directory)
hw:1: Input/output error"

and choosing low nosound shows:

:0.0: Protocol not found

After aplay -L, this is what I get:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# aplay -L
null
    Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
default:CARD=Intel
    HDA Intel, ALC269VB Analog

From all these names & numbers, what exactly should I replace hw:1 with?

Re: Screen Recorder for Porteus (32 bit)

@jacoby:

Switching to kde environment is really easy by only downloading the kde.xzm module, You keep your favorite desktop, but when you need simple screen recorder you boot kde from syslinux or grubmenu. You could use it only for your screen recording manipulations.

If interested please pursue on this other thread:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 547#p31547

@brokenman:
But for sure I am still interested to be able to use ffmpeg.

@francois: I did as mentioned in the other thread, but I keep getting the following error during boot -

Code: Select all

porteus login: /etc/rc.d/rc.4: line 13: /usr/bin/kdm: cannot execute binary file
INIT: Id "x1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 mins
Then I decided to remove xfce.xzm from boot folder and boot with KDM as the only desktop, but still got the same error.

If you use a save changes= cheatcode option save it under another folder name. Start with a new folder for changes= .

Make sure that yo have downloaded the KDE.xzm accodind to your architecture.

Remove the simple screen recorder that you have built after this thread.
