Having the same issue in Porteus v30.1 LXDE using xscreensaver-5.29-i486-1_slack14.1.xzm downloaded with USM.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ ls -l $(which xscreensaver)
-rwxr-s--x 1 root shadow 229100 Aug 1 15:48 /usr/bin/xscreensaver

guest@porteus:~$ xscreensaver &
[1] 8075
guest@porteus:~$ xscreensaver: 15:24:30: couldn't get password of "guest"
xscreensaver: 15:24:30: couldn't get password of "root"
xscreensaver: 15:24:30: locking is disabled (error getting password).
xscreensaver: 15:24:30: does xscreensaver need to be setuid? consult the manual.
I changed guest user password, but no change.

I also experienced this in MATE at one stage. Check that xscreensaver is setuid: ls -l `which xscreensaver`

Will double check this for next release.
How do i become super user?
Wear your underpants on the outside and put on a cape.
