Konqueror doesn't show storage media

Hi guys,

When I'm in either KDE or LXDE, I open Konqueror and go to Storage Media. It's empty. I don't see any storage media until I press F5 (Refresh).

The same applies whenever I mount a new USB stick. It displays a prompt to mount it or do nothing, and it IS mounted, but still it doesn't appear in the SM window.
And to unmount a USB stick I have to press F5 again to make the icon visible.

It's to say nothing of PCManFM, which is totally blind and sees none of my disks except the flash drive I'm booting from.

I like Porteus pretty much, but this is a rather annoying bug (esp. when you change USB sticks rather often).

This is really peculiar. I have no such problem on my computers. Do you have the same behavior when you boot always fresh? Are you working on usb or on hdd frugal install?

Can you reproduce this on another machine? I can't seem to reproduce this no matter how hard i try.

Are you using Porteus v1.0 or the v1.1 release candidate?
Please post the output from: uname -r

Other people have reported that even pcmanfm auto detects and mounts their media upon boot (Porteus v1.1). If you can't locate the problem, please run the psinfo tool and upload to pastebin. Thank you.

Sorry for not having provided enough information...

I'm using Porteus 1.1rc1 with USB frugal install. And yes, I've tried this on another computer and found the same problem.

The kernel version is 3.1.0-porteus.

Here's what psinfo says (don't know what pastebin is, sorry): :(

When I'm in either KDE or LXDE, I open Konqueror and go to Storage Media. It's empty. I don't see any storage media until I press F5 (Refresh).
I have the same problem for LXDE desktop in all version of Porteus.

Can you please confirm that this still occurs when booting in 'always fresh' mode with no extra modules and no changes= cheatcode?

i can't recreate the error, please do as follows:

a) boot 32bit porteus-1.1 rc1 into LXDE (no changes)
b) open konqueror and type 'media:/' in URL bar
c) you should see this result:

hi fanthom,

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8701/1ffffffff.jpg
I think the way system:/media by default in LXDE is broken

http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/4044/2ffffffff.jpg
With this way media:/ - all ok

@Blaze,
I had this issue in another Operating System.
That is related to symlink with filemanager.

I don't know how to fix this issue, this was on Konqueror under KDE3.5.12.

PS : That is like when a sub domain doesn't works because the dns record was not saved or has been broken. ;)

For me media:/ works fine, thanks for the advice.

Is it possible to change the symlink now for the Storage Media icon?

It's to say nothing of PCManFM, which is totally blind and sees none of my disks except the flash drive I'm booting from.
i think pcmanfm lists only removable media on the left column. to list all drives pls type 'computer:///' in the URL bar.
i have no idea how to enable it by default on the left.
tried to compile pcmanfm-9.10 but it failed with glib related errors. we can't update glib as it may break other apps....
maybe will have more luck in porteus-2.0 with this issue.

@all
does it work in any other distro which is using lxde?

@beny,
/mnt directory shows only the mounted devices and not all devices (mounted/unmounted).

I remember this issue from a previous porteus release. I don't remember the details exactly, but i had to remove a button from the panel that was pointing to a bad link. It was a long time ago, from from memory the KDE I/O Slaves handle the custom addresses such as system:/ and media:/ and in Trinity (at the time i compiled) there was a problem with this. Hopefully this has been addressed in the latest trinity which will make an appearance in the next Porteus version.

Well, in PuppyRus SnowDog 2.03 (http://mirror.yandex.ru/puppyrus/distro ... -203-m.iso) it does. It's not LXDE though (JWM, as far as I remember) and you need to manually mount the drives by clicking their icons on the desktop, but - if you open PCManFM after that it will show all your drives. And speaking of the characters in 1251 encoding, they are displayed in PCManFM in PuppyRus correctly.

And yes, this issue does appear in the "always fresh" mode as well.
