Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ fdisk -l /dev/sda*
bash: fdisk: command not found
guest@porteus:~$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda*

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
    #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Pretty sure not the response you were expecting.

Would it help if I said I've never created a swap partition?

apologize... seem that you can edit sudoers with your user and use sudo,if you use iso you have to modified the file inside and make a new one

Thank you beny and Bogomips. I believe I did do that I just don't remember on which system it was. 3.0, 3.2.1 3.2.2, USB drive 1, USB drive 2, new pc, old pc? But apparently it wasn't on the system that I was using when I tried it.

In cinnamon I go to "Sound" preferences/settings, I test the sound under each settings but I never hear a sound. But, when I am in "youtube.com" I hear sound normally. So it looks like the system sounds are missing or do not play. I also tried set sound when I close a window but I hear no sound when I close a window, but "youtube.com" is still playing a sound. I also never hear a system sound in Xfce, KDE and MATE... I am running Porteus from Windows FAT32 on USB stick... So is this a bug or my mistake? ...

sudo is asking for guest password.

Sounds have been removed from porteus since it is a lightweight stripped OS.

Thanks.

Using 3.2.2 32Bit with MATE:
1. skype fails to run "skype: error while loading shared libraries: libgstapp-0.10.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
2. from v3.1 "Porteus Installer" silently fails to create bootloader - at the end of the process just opens terminal and nothing runs.
i'm doing first install with XFCE, then removing everything except "ldlinux.sys" then installing MATE.
3. "create live USB" works with no problem on XFCE but with MATE says "ERROR: illegal ISO file"

So the system sounds are not present, I see these possible solutions to fix that:

A) Porteus will generate simple system sounds (like sinus tone), so Porteus will stay lightweight. But when to generate I don't know...

B) Porteus will use just one small system sound for everything, so I can test for example left and right speaker, and Porteus stay lightweight.

C) After clicking the "Test Sound" button Porteus tell to a user: "Sorry user, there are no system sounds installed to keep the Porteus lightweight, so you cannot test your sound settings."

3. "create live USB" works with no problem on XFCE but with MATE says "ERROR: illegal ISO file"
"ERROR: illegal ISO file"
This error message is printed out
when the selected ISO is checked with file command and its output string does not include "ISO 9660 CD-ROM".

Porteus-MATE-v3.2.2-i586.iso
md5sum: 159d76e11a733cbe29e5082bb9502697 Porteus-MATE-v3.2.2-i586.iso

This ISO was downloaded from Porteus site.

Code: Select all

% ls
Porteus-MATE-v3.2.2-i586.iso
% md5sum Porteus-MATE-v3.2.2-i586.iso
159d76e11a733cbe29e5082bb9502697 Porteus-MATE-v3.2.2-i586.iso
% file Porteus-MATE-v3.2.2-i586.iso
Porteus-MATE-v3.2.2-i586.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'Porteus' (bootable)
Please check your ISO.

Thanks.

@neko

after running md5sum on images, "create live USB" runs with no problem,
as i understand: running md5sum is mandatory before using this program, because it cannot check md5sum internally???
strange though, that in XFCE it works without running md5sum.

@kuzja52
I don't know its real reason.
But if "file" command does correctly after "md5sum" command done,
I think that doing those steps is better to avoid error.

Thanks.
