Solution add qt5 necessary for the gui to function or troubleshoot with vlc wiki:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VLC_media_player
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=211976
Added qt5 and ffmpeg without a resolution of the problem. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

However using vlc-2.2.4:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 152#p51152
BTW kde already has qt5 AFAIK.

from where did you get VLC?
brokenman has a vlc bundle on the server(that can be got via 'bundles' app or directly if prefered)..
generally, mediaplayers(or their codec plugins) seem to be a bit sensitive to being compiled against particular versions of libraries(ffmpeg in this case(probly))..

sure does, and ffmpeg..

porteus 3.2.1 bundles
https://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/dl.porteu ... 1/bundles/
usm did not detect the presence of ffmpeg and qt5 and built them, which was not its behavior on porteus 3.1.
