Is that WITH the language modules loaded?

The permissions are good but I don't see the locales in the output. Please also give the content of /etc/profile.d/lang.sh
I just ran the gtk-language-selection tool from porteus-settings-centre and rebooted into xfce4 and german locales were working fine.

@brokenman
my output is exactly the same as to what donald posted including that locale -av output. Should maybe mention I am always logged in as root.

Ok. Should be OK now. Thanks again Donald for the keen eye.

@Blaze
Sorry for giving you work. You can remove all your custom locales now. I checked in both architectures and ru_RU works now for all those applications.

All library locales go into /usr/lib and 64bit machines will have a symlink created for the chosen locale. Hopefully someone can test it and tell me everything is ok.
Remember to remove existing locales first and don't use a mirror server as my changes may not have been synced yet. There was an update to all localecore files and to the gtk-language-selection live script.

brokenman, it would be nice if you could include unrar on xorg or xfce module. Out of the box Engrampa can't unpack rar files.

Also, do you think p7zip is still necessary?

unrar is in 001
Can you please link to an archive that engrampa won't unpack?

p7zip is also in 001 so it is available for all desktops.

In Mate you can't open RAR type files here is a link to one

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

Here's a sample: http://www.mediafire.com/file/062efbtxe ... r-test.rar

I'm using XFCE. Installing unrar 5.3.11 solved the problem.

It worked by right clicking and extracting and by right clicking and opening in engrampa.

@ brokenman

XFCE 32 Bit

confirmed
German localization now work - Thanks
BUT:
the download also fetched a "console-cyrillic-0.9.17-noarch-1.xzm"
Imho this is not necessary for de_DE, is it?

A strange (new?) behavior of network (manager)
Setting ipv6 to ignore seems to do nothing.
I still get an ipv6 address.

Code: Select all

ip addr show | grep inet6
will show you.

In older porteus versions i could use

Code: Select all

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6
before connecting to the router to prevent getting an ipv6 address.
This does not work anymore, (since when?), even if the value is set,
(check with)

Code: Select all

cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6
i have to connect first, get the ipv6 address
and then use the command to get rid of ipv6.
