Porteus -v3.2 final
Posted: 10 Nov 2016, 01:09
by brokenman
Porteus-v3.2 is now available on our mirrors.
Thanks to everybody who tested and all contributors. We will need a printing module for both 32 and 64bit as well as graphics drivers. If anybody can take care of this it would be much appreciated. The release has only been announced to forum members for now but will go to distrowatch in a day or two.

I assume this is the bug report thread for porteus 3.2 final - since it is in the bug reports section, although the thread title does not say so. If not, sudoers please move this to the appropriate section.
On kernel 4.8.6, broadcom wl crashes the kernel. Based on this link
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=218481 and this
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl-dkms/, I added the 004-linux48.patch to the wl source code and rebuilt the module. With this patch, network is fine again and no more crashes are seen. I don't know if the other patches mentioned in the thread are also needed.

Me too.
Porteus-CINNAMON-v3.2-x86_64.iso*
Boots to a blank screen:
With changes=EXIT
Without changes=EXIT
With 009-caches.xzm
Without 009-caches.xzm
With xf86-video-amdgpu-1.1.1-x86_64.xzm* and xf86-video-ati-7.7.1-x86_64.xzm*
Without etc.
Alt+SysRq+B works so it's not totally hung when booting.
-update-
Rebooted with your 3 option
jssouza in AF mode. Unable to run the dmesg command whether signing on as root or guest. As soon as the password is entered nothing else takes.
I saw something in the text on the screen that looked like this:
Code: Select all
Fixed recursive ???? but reboot required!
I don't remember the word(s) after recursive.
-update-
Rebooted with option 3 and norootcopy
Bogomips in AF mode. Same results.
But

Here's Nvidia 367.57 x64 driver compiled to this new Porteus release. It works out of the box with my GTX 650 Ti.

I've already mentioned this in the main chat but I thought I note it here if this is for bug reports.
The current base version of ffmpeg returns an illegal operation error like unrar did in 3.2rc5. I got ffmpeg-3.1.1-i486-1alien.xzm update from usm and it works alright. Although, I'm still learning how to use it and struggling to fix a codec error converting at the moment.
I've found this bundles thing under settings in the whisker menu. When I've no net it says it requires it. After running it with net I see a window pop up in split second and disappears.

KDE5 32 Bit
It's the old chestnut once more, with
baloo_file hogging the cpu at boot up:
Code: Select all
guest@porteus:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
quiet from=/dev/sda10/tmp/iso/v3.2/i586/Porteus-KDE-v3.2-i586.iso copy2ram ramsize=30% noauto rootcopy=/dev/sda4/kd_rcp rammod=000;001;002;xtr extramod=/dev/sda5/xtra
- Tail of porteus-livedbg
Code: Select all
# Modules activated during boot time:
/memory/copy2ram/000-kernel.xzm
/memory/copy2ram/001-core.xzm
/memory/copy2ram/002-xorg.xzm

ISO=/mnt/sda10/tmp/iso/v3.2/i586/Porteus-KDE-v3.2-i586.iso
- Console (Boot up)baloo_file

- After killing baloo_file, disk light no longer glowing steady red, so Alt+F7, which returned to Black Screen plus Mouse Pointer. Alt+F1 brought up Kicker, and everything was there including nvidia settings entry, which worked. Neither Taskbar (bottom panel) nor Wallpaper to be seen.
- Nest Boot Up
Code: Select all
guest@porteus:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
quiet from=/dev/sda10/tmp/iso/v3.2/i586/Porteus-KDE-v3.2-i586.iso copy2ram ramsize=30% noauto rootcopy=/dev/sda4/kd_rcp rammod=000;001;002;xtr extramod=/dev/sda5/xtra guiexec=pkill~baloo_file
- Remedy. Killing baloo in guiexec resulted in getting the wallpaper, followed by readjustment of quill to vertical, and then followed a black screen which seemed to last quite a while before the Desktop came up with everything showing.
noauto
Pleased to report, that unlike Cinnamon, in KDE nothing remained mounted at boot up:
Code: Select all
guest@porteus:~$ mount | grep sdb
guest@porteus:~$ grep sdb < /var/log/porteus-livedbg

jzzouza I boot ISOs so modifying /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom_blacklist.conf is more than a little task. Looks like I need to wait for 3.2.1.

rootcopy= is what I use:

hmmm An interesting option

Where did you get you're file from? The one I need is on an unbootable system.

You can blacklist the wl module without touching the ISO or using rootcopy. Not a nice surprise having broadcom/kernel mismatch. I will check out the patches.
At the boot menu use this kernel cheat to disable the kernel module: modprobe.blacklist=wl
I'll check out the baloo problem and the ffmpeg upgrade in time. lI will push an update when this is resolved.
Thanks for testing.
EDIT:
In the meantime I've put the newly patched broadcom module (64bit only as yet) in the modules folder on the server just now.
Please test it if you have troubles with wl
Also forgot to thank jssouza for tracking that down. Thanks.

I will probably bump the kernel to 4.8.7 and 001 and include the updated broadcom driver. I will then update the ISOs on the server. I apologies for any inconvenience. The broadcom problem came completely from left field and I don't use broadcom to test. I should probably back off from pushing kernel updates until I can read if other distros are having problems first.

Hi folks
can't get the xfce desktop ( 32bit) to display german language . After using the tool in the settings-centre I have four modules in the modules folder: de-core_locales.xzm, de-xfce4_locales.xzm, de_DE-locales-files.xzm and glibc-i18n-i586-1jay.xzm. But after rebooting everything is still in english. Would like to know that other desktops have this problem also and maybe someone has a suggestion.
Otherwise evrything works fine.
