According to the https://sourceforge.net/projects/p7zip/ ... zip/15.14/ README p7zFM is still alpha quality, so it not working should not come as a surprise.

 Welcome to Porteus                                                        v3.1
===============================================================================

 The system is up and running now.

 Login as root with password toor or guest with password guest.
 If you're new to Porteus, visit http://www.porteus.org/ for more info.

 After you login, try the following commands:

 mc ....... to start Midnight Commander (edit/copy/move/create/delete files)
 init 4 ... to run Xwindow system

 Other commands you may find useful:

 activate ..... to insert (install) Porteus module into the system on the fly
 deactivate ... to remove (uninstall) Porteus module from the root filesystem
 pns-tool ..... to setup internet connection

 When finished, use "poweroff" or "reboot" command and wait until it completes
===============================================================================
porteus login:
Thereafter Quill with horizontal blue bar, which fills completely. Image changes slightly with quill seeming to get more vertical, then black screen followed by last appearance of quill lasting for some seconds, before black screen with cursor pointer sets in. Mouse cursor can be moved, and at one point spotted quill, very faint like through a glass darkly.

All left to do, was to get to a console and reboot.

xfce 64
heres a weird one:
1. do some root operation via gui escalation window(gksu)
2. tick remember for session
3. now do some root operation via thunar(guest) eg. activate or extract a module(no password needed)
4. extracted files have guest ownership :0 and created modules etc...

@Evan
you're talking about this one?:

Code: Select all

Error creating proxy: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gtk.vfs.GPhoto2VolumeMonitor: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process org.gtk.vfs.GPhoto2VolumeMonitor exited with status 127 (g-dbus-error-quark, 25)
i guess this is because gvfs-gphoto2 isn't installed...

Hello,

A small bug/omission that may affect some users with a broadcom wifi card:

The broadcom proprietary kernel module wl.ko is missing from 000-kernel.xzm but several related files from earlier versions are still present (at least in the 32-bit version, I did not check the 64-bit version).

The following will remove all obsolete files:

rm /etc/modprobe.d/b43_blacklist.conf
rm /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom_blacklist.conf
rm /var/log/packages/broadcom-sta-6.30.223.248-i486-1ftm
rm /var/log/packages/broadcom-sta-6.30.223.271_4.4.3_porteus-i486-1jay
rm /var/log/scripts/broadcom-sta-6.30.223.271_4.4.3_porteus-i486-1jay
rm -r /usr/doc/broadcom-sta-6.30.223.141
rm -r /usr/doc/broadcom-sta-6.30.223.271

If we wish to install the current wl.ko for some particular kernel you have just compiled (say 4.4.10-porteus, for example), the following will do all the job:

wget --no-check-certificate https://slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/14. ... sta.tar.gz
tar xf broadcom-sta.tar.gz
cd broadcom-sta/

wget --no-check-certificate https://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta ... 271.tar.gz
wget --no-check-certificate https://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta ... 271.tar.gz
wget --no-check-certificate https://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta ... 23.271.txt

KERNEL=4.4.10-porteus broadcom-sta.SlackBuild
installpkg /tmp/broadcom-sta-*_SBo.tgz

The above instructions should work equally well for the 64-bit version.

Regards.

It appears that the nvidia driver is able to meet the needs of the graphical interface, which have proven too demanding for nouveau.

Hi all!
I tried porteus 3.2rc2 x86_64 xfce as a "clean" xfce variant and as a part of custom monstrocity.

In both cases I had these 2 problems (they're not kernel's fault as kernel 4.5.3-porteus works fine with other modules and porteus 3.1 among them):
1)At work (gigabyte mb), phone connected to usb doesn't charge and reconnects each second

Code: Select all

May 18 07:41:15 porteus syslogd 1.5.1: restart.
May 18 07:41:16 porteus kernel: klogd 1.5.1, log source = /proc/kmsg started.

P.S.
Anybody tested new GLVND nvidia driver yet?
I see there's non-glvnd 340.96 driver.
I use glvnd driver 364.19 with my "custom monstrocity", will check if it works with 3.2rc2, but as I remember I had to remove these files from /usr/lib64 from porteus 3.1 for it to work with wine and some of the games

Coming back on viewing PDF files under XFCE 32-bit (and maybe others):

As you may remember, shippd epdfview failed to show png pictures in pdf files, so I was using xpdf+libXm.so.

However, I discovered the current version of xpdf is very slow rendering some vectorial plots in pdf files, so I tried to recompile eviewpdf, and it now works very well with both type of files on porteus XFCE. Therefore, I now recommend reinstalling eviewpdf, and not shifting to xpdf.

Instructions to rebuild epdfview:

wget --no-check-certificate https://slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/14. ... iew.tar.gz
tar xf epdfview.tar.gz
cd epdfview
wget http://anduin.linuxfromscratch.org/BLFS ... .8.tar.bz2
wget http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/patches ... es-2.patch
sed -i "s/epdfview-0.1.8-fixes-1.patch/epdfview-0.1.8-fixes-2.patch/" epdfview.SlackBuild
sh epdfview.SlackBuild

Voilà !

Porteus-3.2rc2 bug reports

Post#90 by Bogomips » 20 May 2016, 00:50

kde5 64 bit

Graphical Interface now functions after nvidia driver introduction. Not as spritely as 32 bit, as not all can fit into ram under my normal division. But might see if possible to tweak it. Also got PaleMoon running here.
