What audio output do you want to use?

I manages after manual work to get alsa and HDMI to run, but that was some 2.x version or Port.

Now, with 3.1 or 3.11 I was NOT able to get it running at all, even when using the same ports as previous, even when trying all available ports I get no sound via HDMI.

But the "jack" error sounds like you also need the jack audio frame work. Do you have that installed / the jack and dependencies module(s) installed as well?

Hi all
pure xfce-3.1-32bit (+ nvidia Driver)
I use the audacity modules from
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 45&p=29131
(you need all 3)
and afaics it works
I didn't test much, but I have sound and playback wav, mp3, ogg,
also converting wav -> mp3 works.
All settings in audacity are the defaults.

When I start audacity from terminal I get these messages:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ audacity
ALSA lib pcm.c:2239:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.rear
ALSA lib pcm.c:2239:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM cards.pcm.center_lfe

guest@porteus:~$
It seems that this doesn't matter much..(with my hardware?)... :unknown:

I like to use alsa if it will.

I downloaded all 3 packages and it is smaller then what I have but if that all I need.

Why I need to use Audacity. I have all the vinyl Beatles song that are 24bit 96000Hz

Try it with ASLA only, please. Jack is not just an alternative to ALSA, it is a sound server/client system and much more complex than ALSA.

jack-1.9.9.5-i486-1dj.txz
libconfig-1.4.9-i486-1alien.tgz
libdbus-c++-0.9.0-i486-1dj.txz
libffado-2.1.0-i486-1dj.txz
libid3tag-0.15.1b-i486-4.txz
libiec61883-1.2.0-i486-1gv.txz
libxml++-2.36.0-i486-1ponce.txz
soundtouch-1.7.1-i486-1gv.txz
vamp-plugin-sdk-2.5-i486-2ponce.txz
wxGTK-2.8.12-i486-1alien.tgz

Yay!
Jack wrote:All I could check was a mp3 music file.
Well, mp3 is more to handle, if it can read and handle mp3 most probably it also can handle wav. (Depending on filetype, not all wav are just plain audio-cd files, could be highly compressed voice recording as well)

Try to get a wav and ogg online, at least ogg files you find on wikipedia. Wav files are to be found where the specialist talk about more complex sound software than audacity, e.g. drum or synthesiser programs.

I use FLAC music files most of time. I just had a MP3 close by.

Please post the heads up when you checked out FLAC files, and all the converting and stuff you want to do top them.

So that we - and all the lurkers as well - know it works fine now. :)

I'm Playing Hey Jude is a 162.3mb FLAC file. And it is playing great. It was recorded at 96000Hz and 24bit stereo. I would like to post a screen shot but I don't know how.

EDIT the link to it

If you run XFCe, then search for "Screenshot" in its start menu. :)
