The cd works fine.
Except I miss Firefox.

And when I install Chrome I see this message:

[12367:12387:1102/155218:FATAL:nss_util.cc(396)] NSS_VersionCheck("3.14.3") failed. NSS >= 3.14.3 is required. Please upgrade to the latest NSS, and if you still get this error, contact your distribution maintainer.

Edit 1: and a more annying thing. I have to do manually do dhpcd to make my internet work,

Failed to run /opt/porteus-scripts/activate /tmp/porteus-devpack-v2.1-x86_64-1jay.xzm as user root.

Failed to communicate with gksu-run-helper.

While expecting:

I saw it,
I installed from the new cd and I can and have installed it without any problems.

The problems I described where from the installed system. I hope you find a answer soon.

You can download it from http://dl3.porteus.org/x86_64/current/modules/

Not sure why you have to run dhcpcd manually. networkmanager is working here. Try to download the devpack again using bundles or manually from here. Right click 'save as'.

The bundles application does an internet check first (i havn;t implemented a popup saying so yet) so give it a few seconds to kick in.

This is not MATE it is gnome-3.8.4. I discontinued the mate version since it was merged into the porteus online builder. I could create a bunch of mate 'extras' that would turn it into fat gnome but then so could anyone. I am liking gnome-3.8 more and more. I find it very usable now since they improved the application searcher. Gnome-3.8 in under 290Mb can not be considered bloatware anymore.

1.0 Maybe I completely misunderstood. Quoted from your first post in this thread:
brokenman wrote:Since mate is now included in the web wizard as a desktop choice ...
Could you explain simply what this means. Sometime my knowledge of Shakespeare tongue misleads me? :( I understood that with porteus fat gnome 3.8.4, there would be a mate option as to the design of the DE. Did I completely misunderstood? Will mate be superceded by fat gnome as a desktop on porteus os?

2.0 After googling I might have sorted it out a little bit on my own. But some answer would be nonetheless appreciated, as there are many levels in that question of mine. So here is an additional question. Will it be possible to build easily cinamon on top of gnome 3.8.4? See:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/cinnamon
http://www.zdnet.com/photos/a-walk-thro ... ry/6342058

3.0 Working with fat gnome permits to have a better idea of the beast. It really looks good under porteus. This is a different interface from what I have been used yet. Maybe before asking questions I should tackle the beast a little more. As I understood, brokenman, you have other priorities, the first one being integrating the new Slackware repository to porteus. So I am going to start a general post on FAT gnome-3.8.4 so to permit exchanging between users knowledge on the interface and the functioning of its basic applications.

A few questions here if you may.
3.1 Is there a way to bootup directly into root mode without having to pass thru the guest account. (my login=root cheatcode in the menu.lst instructions does not seem to work).
3.2 system-config-printer doesn't seem to figure into the menu (I have loaded the printer pack). I had to trigger it from command line using the system-config-printer command.
3.3 Where is the bundle fetcher in the menu?
[quoteI have included an application called 'bundles' where you can download packages that were stripped from the original gnome and I will update this list with time.][/quote]

Brokenman, thanks for delivering such a nice DE. It could be called the christmas gift.

What I mean is that FAT gnome is now gnome-3.8.4 and no MATE option is offered for this. People that want mate can download the standard ISO and I can create an addon to make it fat. Gnome-3.8.4 includes updated core packages which is why MATE is not offered.

Will it be possible to build easily cinamon on top of gnome 3.8.4?
Compiling it is easy. Getting it to actually run nicely will require some tinkering. There is a thread on the forum where a gentleman attempted but I think he came to a roadblock.

No time to answer the last three questions indepth. Quickly, I haven't tested booting directly into root extensively. The printer pack may need a tweak in the .desktop file to appear in the menu. To start the bundles software just hit the windows key and type: bundle or software and it should appear. Give it a few seconds to start up as it checks for internet with no popup message that it is doing so.

Working with fat gnome makes me happy. Finally, I do not really care about the cinnamon touch, as it is 2.8.4 looks great.

Thanks for the info on bundles.

@brokenman:

I imagine that the release of porteus 3.0 and usm, occupied most of your time lately. You must just begin to relax. 8)

If there is some kind of improvement to the fat gnome project let us know. We will test it readily.

I'd be happy to test a 32bit version if it became available.
