Regarding default printer options

Post#1 by Docanis » 13 Jul 2016, 12:10

I read back in 2014 that the ability to select default printer options in the config wizard was being worked on.
In 2016 it is still not possible, and silent printing is useless since it auto selects US LTR paper that nobody uses.
I know this is free software and i am very grateful for the work that has been going into this over the years.
Will we be able to select a different default paper type for our printers, that stay with the kiosk after reboot?

As it is now, it works fine until power is lost to the kiosk and it reboots. It will then revert back to US LTR paper and 600 DPI resolution which is default.
I will then have to go to 127.0.0.1:631 and configure the default printer options in CUPS again.
I would even be grateful if i could just save the changes i make in CUPS so they stay after reboot.

Hello Docanis,

"I read back in 2014 that the ability to select default printer options in the config wizard was being worked on. In 2016 it is still not possible,"
Reasons are explained here:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=102&t=5628
Printing drivers are different and its not possible to cover all configurations in the wizard.

You may use browser_preferences= parameter to configure printing options as explained in the linked thread.

BTW: next kiosk release should bring (optional) full persistence to the guest folder so if privacy is not a concern then printing settings may be saved permanently.

Thank you.
