Re: Porteus on the net

We presently appear in wikipedia under slax as a fork. To get porteus with the search function of wikipedia you need to put porteus fork. At least for now.

Re: converting save changes folder into module

@burningbush: Thanks for the detailed explanation permitting bootup when in grub entry. I also appreciate your always fresh menu.lst settings. However, it seems that my changes folder is pretty huge, so I will have to downsize it in size before proceeding anyway. I will start with a more recent /por...

Porteus linux on the net or on the waves of the web

Seaching for Porteus with google, I found that we are now on Softopedia: http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Porteus-64578.shtml Citation: Porteus is based on the Linux Live Scripts which have been heavily modified by Chief maintainer Fanthom for a much faster...

Re: [IMPORTANT] Package manager for next release

@ponce: Although, I am not very fluent in terms of package manager, the topic is interesting quite enough for me to devote some time, in peculiar package management related to gslapt and slapt-get and the integration of modules. So if there is anything I could do for testing the system just let me k...

Re: converting save changes folder into module

In fact I work with frugal install on hdd. The menu.lst is: title porteus09 kernel (hd0,5)/boot/vmlinuz ramdisk_size=6666 root=/dev/ram0 rw autoexec=xconf;telinit~4 changes=/porteus09cfg fromhd=/mnt/sda6 initrd=(hd0,5)/boot/initrd.lz boot The always fresh reboot is something I will try. What will be...

Re: How do i Install Pidgin?

Maybe you can try this one:
http://www.slax.org/modules.php?action=detail&id=2920

Like any other slax module you have to convert it into a sq4.lzm module. To do right click on it and select the appropriate procedure.

Re: frugal install : sumary of problems and solutions

Yes. It will be sold in all major retail outlets. $150. Porteus is free, but the box costs $150. It will come in packaging like this: http://www.porteus.org/img/cover-example2.jpg  I have to recognize that you have a great sense of -humour-. I would add that you were quite ready to answer to ...

converting save changes folder into module

I would like to be able to convert my frugal install save changes folder into a module. This way once I get a satisfying desktop (my favorite wallpaper, screensaver, right dimension for the control panel, firefox set with xmarks addon, etc.), I could revert to it anytime that I wanted to, instead of...

Re: Porteus does not offer mounting of dev no more

@fanthom: Sorry for that. There was a grey zone between slax and porteus, remix. I will be more strict in the future keeping remix and porteus for porteus forum, and naming remix as porteus. However, I can read on slax forum that there are still some people unaware of that distinction. And thanks fo...

I would just like to congratulate those responsible for the forum structure. Finally, it seems that a demand to get meaningful categories was not such a fuss. There is a real pleasure to navigate around in this forum. And it seems to stimulate creativity.

Re: Porteus does not offer mounting of dev no more

Sorry everybody. The problem seems to be tied to my frugal install and to its save changes folder. Meaning rebooting anew without the changes folder did the job. . Concerning the frugal install, I really love jcsoh comment on transforming the save changes folder into a lzm module, citation: ... con...

Re: frugal install : sumary of problems and solutions

Not officially supported .... please define this. If someone asks for help, and they have breached the 'official install guide' i'm sure we won't say "No way man! Get lost, you get no help because you're weird, and so is the way you install Porteus" ... [/list] Good to know that. Does that ...
