3.2.2 migration to 4.0 problem.

Ed_P, Probably completely unrelated, but I had a similar problem with installing my Porteus-Runit build to an Acer laptop. It turned out to be permissions for /home/guest. As I recall, the problem was in permissions for /home/guest/.dconf. I haven't yet tracked down what file is changing permissions...

Re: What would you use if Porteus was not available?

If Porteus was not available, Void Linux would take it's place on my machines. Void runs very well when set up under the Porteus module format, some work required to do it but it responds well. The Void install, setup like a Porteus frugal install, takes up around 215 mb with Xfce. I think that's a ...

Re: Porteus Live Mate : no browser? no package manager?

Timmi, Using USM, I searched for "midori", got a result instantly, and downloaded it. I was also prompted to download webkitgtk, which is a dependency. It then prompts you to choose whether or not you want to make a module, and in this case, merge the modules into one. Choose both options, it will d...

Re: Replacing Deleted Porteus Start-up File/Files

Is the porteus.cfg file pointing to the right kernel and initrd.xz?

I've had that error if the wrong initrd.xz was set on the command line.

Re: X server crashing!

If it works well in Always Fresh mode, and it's happened recently, then something in your changes is causing X to crash....changes you've made or modules you load. You can look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log for error messages. You'll need to do that from the console using either Midnight Commander (mc), or...

Re: Porteus Nemesis v3.5 BUG REPORTS

There is also a backlight issue I haven't looked at yet, I think it might be coming from elsewhere besides Xfce. It's easily dealt with though, using the power-manager plugin if its still an issue try...but we have openrc so ignore any systemd stuff pls https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/backligh...

Re: Update method of choice: Porteus vs Arch way?

That's true, cheatcode doc on 'boot_only' says nothing about not loading 'changes'. Means creating modules in FM vs Normal could lead to different results. That's a point vs updating the alpha OS via pacman then. I haven't looked at the cheatcodes, but I really don't see why it should be written in...

Re: Skype not working in Porteus 3.1 x86_64

Please open a terminal and try to start skype from it. This will almost always output an error message as to why it doesn't start.

I don't use it but I believe the command is 'skype'

Also, are you logged in as guest or root.

Re: Porteus Nemesis v3.5 BUG REPORTS

@ brokenman There is not a lot more to test in LXDE. ...perhaps introduce another desktop. Any preferences?... Yes,XFCE.. :) I gave porteus to some friends of mine for testing and most of them (ex win users) prefer XFCE. Easy to use/configure, not so spartan as LXDE and not so overloaded with optio...

Re: Porteus Nemesis v3.5 BUG REPORTS

On my Kangaroo (Atom XZ-8500), 64-bit Nemesis 3.5 boots to the desktop, but the graphical cursor can't be seen. When I boot to text mode and issue "startx", I get the GDBus error described by Ed P. but the desktop appears and Wi-Fi is working. In the error box and all the GUI's text labels, certain...

Re: Update method of choice: Porteus vs Arch way?

@datruche You are going to propose the same alpha system that I don't recommend you use for work at home to an association? Hopefully you mean after it matures. Tested Porteus current by using it a few months; now using the development release; i dunno how logical it seems though that's the ...

I have no idea why he does, I'd be sitting on the damn beach sipping on some funny drink....I hear bikinis are basically a string, where he lives. I am sitting on a beach with a funny drink, but I have a laptop with me and a bad wifi connection. The bikinis do in fact resemble a piece of string. Th...

Re: Update method of choice: Porteus vs Arch way?

@datruche First maj XZM is 109 MiB. How much RAM, room and processing power will it takes to merge a couple of them, so that we get an idea about Nemesis minimal hardware requirements (*)? I know my dual core Atom and 1 Gig of ram handles it fine, max's it out for sure. I do a lot more than 109 Mib ...

Re: Update method of choice: Porteus vs Arch way?
