When you log in as guest, the file /etc/profile is run and the following environment variable from the script is locked and loaded. PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/opt/porteus-scripts" Now because you are logged in as guest, guest has access to this path. Root doesn't have this path b...

Intel processors with a security bug

Yes this is the correct output. The previous was: date = 2017-01-xx You'll now be protected against one vector of spectre2. Keep a close eye on updates because we still need to mitigate other areas. IBRS support or retpoline options in the kernel should be coming soon. The latter will require a new ...

virtual reality accessible: google cardboard

I have the gearvr which is a much nicer experience than the cardboard vr. cardboard vr has quite a narrow field of vision and the tracking is not as smooth as gearvr.

3.2.2 migration to 4.0 problem.

The wrong files are located at /usr/share/GConf/gsettings in 003-cinnamon. These files are read at activation time by /usr/bin/glib-compile-schemas to build caches at /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas, resulting in wrong caches that lead to the black screen at start. I don't think this is the culprit eit...

Porteus came and (almost) kicked Windows

I have a propensity to break things by trying stuff, so porteus suits me also.
I also don't like to clean up and I don't like browsers tracking me so fresh mode is my choice always.

You can create an image file like so:

Code: Select all

dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/myimage.dat bs=1024 count=10000
mkfs.ext4 /tmp/myimage.dat
This will create a 10MB image.

Try taking out NetworkManager and ModemManager of 001-core. Traditionally they both belong in 002-xorg. The 001-core module includes the pns-tool from fanthom, so one can connect to the net easily in text mode; you don't need NetworkManager. That way you will definitely find out if NM is the cause ...

I think certian entries for I2C bus/pci in the "config' file are disabled in porteus and Aporteus.
Correct. Also, there was a problem with I2c parport so I removed this capability. If you can pinpoint the required config I will add it in the next release. The rc1 kernel has already been uploaded.
