low ressource computer: your setup to maximize your box

http://www.akitaonrails.com/2017/01/17/optimizing-linux-for-slow-computers Interesting link, but seems to be in different ballpark when comes to RAM. Discusses RAM in multiples of GIB, while I have under 1 GiB, 872 MiB to be precise. Also no mention of using zram , although I myself have perceived n...

Videogame Fantasy Reality

Never been much of an advocate of video games, having seen how addictive they can become. Sort of different from flight simulation games etc. Even did suggest on some government forum that they be taxed just like cigarettes and alcochol as a source of revenue. Was aware of a health and social issue,...

What's your favorite file manager?

It's Nemo, but to be honest, can't be bothered to point and click and point and click ..., even though it's there on the task bar minimized. Normally just using ls, find, grep and tab completion does the trick. Only use fm as last resort on partition where can't remember directory structure and/or w...

low ressource computer: your setup to maximize your box

I dig the question of java script on my side as well as I could, but without satisfactory solution. Is there some sort of java script blocker utility that you reccomend? There are quite a few JS toggles that one can search for. Difficult to find is Disallow Script Button https://addons.mozilla.org/...

Invitation to create Savefile during boot or simplify "Save changes" process

Strongly against ntfs for removeable drives. Extra journaling can cause unsafe removal problems. FAT & exFAT better options If for some reason user wishes to make save.dat on removable drive, is strongly advised to create linux partition for file as neko has done here: RTL8723bs @alexhawk2016 If yo...

Recommend Printer for PDF [+PS]

It seems printers with pdf conversion firmware are very few in number, the current solution being to provide software to convert to printer language in device holding pdf file. Faced with that reality, I'll be going for the Canon pixma mg3650, as seems to be quite compact, and with Linux drivers bei...

Invitation to create Savefile during boot or simplify "Save changes" process

1) boot Porteus (it will boot in Always fresh mode because most Windows users created USB boot flash disk using NTFS/FAT. Formatted USB stick with vfat partition. Could not copy file to it. Had to become superuser in order for copy to go through. Tablet with win10 could access partition and show fi...
