3. Edit this mirrors-salix by commenting out the uncommented mirror (i.e. the dud one) and uncommenting any other one
Actually this approach works just editing the file in /etc/usm and restarting USM.

USM - Updates fail

It means one of the mirrors has a corrupted file. There are a couple of options to try. Check out this thread: [INFO & SCRIPT] Slackware Mirror Settings for USM for one approach. And this posting for another: Re: Save files (Post by Ed_P #54673).

a question about whiteouts and persistence

I use changes=EXIT also and have occasionally experienced problems due to whiteouts in the savedat file and I run a script to delete them periodically. The vast majority being files deleted from the Firefox cache. As to whether their presence impacts speed or space significantly I don't think so. Yo...

USM bug reports

You will note from the distribution files that there are many mirrors. Some mirrors may have downloaded some corrupted files and some may not have. Using the scripts you have tried helps to get around the damaged mirrors. Starting from scratch repeatedly doesn't seem to be the fastest approach to a ...

What does SWAP option in Porteus Kiosk actually means?

As a regular Porteus user rather than a Kiosk user I will say I have never used a swap file with my Linux systems. I would say if you have machines with more than 512 MB of RAM you don't need a swap file. If you want one on the same flash drive partition it and put the swap file in the new partition...

Gparted help

Two thoughts. One use USM to build a GParted module for your Mate. That should include the dependent modules and the right app icon for you. Two save the editted app icon as a module to include with the others you downloaded for GParted.

Gparted help

On my Cinnamon desktop the GParted app is:

/usr/share/applications/gparted.desktop

Exec=gksu gparted

Where did you get GParted from Jack? USM should have the correct app with the module, plus all the required modules.

I'd like to know where is that location of the splash screen with the little lighthouse when Porteus boot. I love places like that and that screen captivated me.
Welcome skybolt. :)

Yes, I know what you mean, I love that picture also. It's in the Porteus /boot/syslinux/ folder.
