The same for ducks shooting.

The development of the presence of europeans in eastern Canada in the 1600's was exclusively based on fishing and hunting. As much as fishing, hunting and agriculture were the main activities of natives before the coming of the europeans onto their land. We try to manage the game population intelligently, as much as we can at present. Game fishing and hunting are important cash gathering industries. We surely do not want to spoil the ressource.
francois - 23 Apr 2014, 18:25
Industrial fishing is completely another story.
Ed_P - 23 Apr 2014, 20:32
So is seal hunting.
brokenman - 23 Apr 2014, 22:00
Same thing in NZ for the hunting. The Europeans came and wanted to kill stuff, so they released deer, rabbits etc. They even relesed a Canadian moose and legend is that tey still exist.
francois - 23 Apr 2014, 22:47
Even small animals could make a difference, I read that worms were not known into america. They changed the structure of the soil, I do not remember if this was positive of negative.
francois - 23 Apr 2014, 22:51
I did not want to write something on seals. For sure they are not near extinction at all. In a scientific study they write that their numbers have been quite stables for decades. I would have to read more about it before giving some opinion on the subject. I am a former biologist, but no ecologist in the sense of activist as in Green Peace.
francois - 23 Apr 2014, 22:57
There is a big issue in the canadian press right now about the fact that the actual conservative government wanting to relieve the hunting ban on pacific humpback whale to favor the petroleum industry. :(
freestyler - 24 Apr 2014, 12:02

brokenman - 24 Apr 2014, 13:42
Long drive. Set your GPS to avoid traffic lights.
